The colourful cavalcade of 80 Variety Bash cars will visit the school on Monday, May 22, bringing with them opportunities Bogan Gate kids haven’t had a chance to take part in before.
“The Variety NSW Bash will provide our school with virtual reality goggles and a computer which will give the students the experience of swimming with the fish on the Great Barrier Reef, exploring the Colosseum in Rome or taking part in science experiments which would be too dangerous to conduct in a real life situation,” relieving principal Kylie Dunn said.
“This technology will mean the children of Bogan Gate won’t miss out on opportunities to learn and grow, and experience the world around them.”
The virtual reality technology is part of $51,000 worth of grants the Variety Bash will give to regional NSW schools during the event to help ensure kids, no matter where they live, don’t miss out.
This year’s event will begin on Sunday, May 21 at Bar Beach Newcastle, and is heading to Gilgandra, Cowra, Narrandera, Yass, Bathurst and Muswellbrook before finishing at Bar Beach on Saturday, May 27.
On day two of the week-long adventure the Variety Bash crews will be treated to lunch by Bogan Gate Public School, where they will be able to meet the kids and see the difference their fundraising makes.
“All our crews look forward to heading out on the Variety Bash each year and by far the highlight of every trip is when we get to visit the schools and meet the kids we support,” Variety NSW Regional Director Jason Bourke said.
“Thanks to the incredible generosity and hard work of our Bashers, we hope to raise more than $800,000 through the 2017 Variety NSW Bash.
“All of the funds raised will provide grants to kids in need.
“This might be a new wheelchair for a child with a disability, a scholarship to help a child facing financial hardship achieve their sporting dream, or even nappies for a family doing it tough.
“Whatever it is, the money raised during our event will give a fair go to Aussie kids who miss out, because that’s the Variety way.”
