Lex and Kym Hodges have always loved Holden Monaros, and Lex has always wanted a Harley Davidson - now they have both.
They’d always wanted to own a Monaro and when the last one rolled off the Australian production line in 2006 they thought they’d missed their chance.
In 2008 though, a friend let them know of this one for sale brand new in Bathurst.
It turns out that there were three yellow Monaros that had remained on the factory floor at HSV so in 2008, Lex and Kym bought themselves a new 2006 HSV Monaro GTO with 0 km’s on it.
They liked the yellow colour but decided to option up the Monaro with yellow inserts on the black interior, a glass sunroof, twin system exhaust and 19 inch mag wheels.
It’s a 6.0 litre automatic with a claimed output of 297 kW and with the GTO styled bonnet, badging and side skirts it certainly looks the goods.
The Monaro is Lex and Kym’s ‘Sunday driver’ and they’ve recently joined the Central West Car Club to enjoy their driving with other like minded car enthusiasts.
Then comes the Harley Davidson. Lex’s Harley is a 2007 Fatboy.
A friend of his owned it and it never saw much use so having always wanted one, Lex jokingly said that he would buy it from him one day.
Sure enough, in 2011 his friend rang to say he was ready to sell so Lex suddenly found he had to justify opening his mouth!
“It only had 1800 km’s on it and I’d always wanted one, so I just couldn’t say no,” Lex laughed.
The Harley is a 1584 cc V-twin and it stands out from the crowd with its factory white pearl colour, solid wheels and plenty of chrome.
Kym occasionally gets on the back of the bike for a ride around town, but she’s happy to let Lex enjoy his pride and joy.
After all, the Monaro is officially hers and the Harley belongs to Lex.
Once again, it’s a Sunday cruiser for a fine day.
Lex grew up with farm bikes and remembers vividly the stand up argument he had with his dad when he wanted to get himself a road bike at 17.
His dad won of course.
He had a short stint with a motorbike before the kids came along and it's only been in recent years that he has had the chance to get back on two wheels again.
