Parkes Gun Club site was originally the old Deep Lead school room which was purchased by the club about 60 years ago.
Club members wish to thank Northparkes Mine for their generous financial help towards these improvements.
With the excellent facelift to the Gun Club area and the ongoing improvements at the Pistol Club area the whole shooting complex has taken on a much improved appearance.
At our first shoot since the renovations we were pleased to welcome several visitors from other local clubs plus two interstate contestants both Queenslanders travelling in our area.
The main event was a 25 target event off the tower which was decided in a shoot off between two local lads.
They were Clint Hawke who is slowly regaining his devastating form after several years out of the sport and the evergreen David Wilson, who is now of veterans age and is still very hard to beat.
David finished up the winner in a close duel.
On Saturday, April 29, the club held an open day for all interested persons.
We were pleasantly surprised to have about 30 locals showing interest in the sport, including several juniors.
They were instructed on the handling of firearms by very experienced persons, the importance of safety and regulations were highlighted and they were later given a few shots under strict supervision according to present day regulations.
The whole day went off smoothly and was enjoyed by everyone involved.
