A police spokesperson said a man phoned the victim, introduced himself and stated his uncle had an electrical business in a nearby town in the Central West which had just closed its doors.
“He offered to sell the victim electrical goods including TVs, washing machines and other large items at drastically reduced prices,” the spokesperson said.
“The caller asked for a deposit to be sent by direct deposit and arranged a time to deliver the goods - but the delivery never happened.
“If you have been a victim of this and deposited money, please call Parkes Police Station on 6862 9999.
“We strongly advise, if you receive such a phone call, please ignore it and let us know.”
It is a timely reminder to exercise caution if you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be selling underpriced items.
If it sounds too good to be true, it most probably is.
