The Boars had a week where several of their key first grade players were unavailable due to work commitments, however this didn’t stop them confronting the hard running Dubbo Kangaroos.

Boars kicked off with the ball delivered into the arms of the massive Roos Flanker – Lolohea. He pushed off four tacklers before being brought down by a combination tackle from Ben Ryan and John Rathbone. A fumble from the on play gave the Boars the ball and a strong attack was mounted. They opened the scoring when fly half Lloyd Rogers ducked, dived and ran through the Roos defence to plant the ball under the posts. Rogers then converted his own to add the extras.
Kangaroos kicked to restart – the crowd was appreciative of Israel Symington’s AFL style jump to take the ball. The match began to settle with play centred in the mid field. Dubbo put on a strong rolling maul and showing patience, got to the 5m line. An infringement by Parkes gave Dubbo a scrum feed on the 5m and enough go forward to cross the line. The conversion was successful and the scores even.
Dubbo crossed twice more during the half with Parkes restricted to taking a deep penalty kick. The half time score Boars 10, Kangaroos 19.
The second half was as physical as the first with the Boars lifting their game. Lock Toby Baigent took a screamer and returned the ball 25m through the Roos defence to be brought down under four defenders. His quick pass sent the ball safely into the hands of inside centre Ben Powlay. Powlay crossed wide. The conversion scraped the posts but didn’t cross.
Parkes crossed the line again through the kick, run and chase of newest team member hooker Bobby Waititi. Rogers added the extras and the Boars led 22-19.
With five minutes to go inside centre Billy Sing of the Roos finds the line and crosses next to the posts. The extras were added and the Roos took the lead 22-26. An opportunity for Parkes to add extra points came through a yellow card infringement from Kangaroos but the kick went wide.
Kangaroos took the match 26-22.
Referee Richard Madden described the match as hard and fast for so early in the season and awarded his referee points: 3 to Billy Sing (Roos), 2 to Ash Adams (Boars), 1 to Toby Baigent (Boars).
3 pts John Rathbone, 2 pts Josh Miles, 1 pt Josh Cornellison and Joe Nash. Player’s player to Lloyd Rogers.
Boars have a week off as the Country Championships are being held in Port Macquarie this weekend. The Boars are represented by Ben Ryan, Dan Ryan, Israel Symington, Leo Havili and Lloyd Rogers.
Next game is Saturday, May 6 in Forbes against the Platypi.
Second Grade
The seconds were looking for a win but with a couple of key players unavailable due to work commitments the fluidity of the team was disrupted.
Winger Marika Koriuovi opened the account for Parkes with a flying try down the wing well supported by centres Chris Sellings and Mat Hunter. He placed the ball right on the corner post. Flanker Mitch Hutchings was next to cross - working through the Roos defence to ground the ball under the posts. The extras were added.
Parkes defence was strong with the forward pack of Jake Elliott, Dylan Hood and Iszac Oliver working hard. An infringement to Parkes saw a player sent to the bin and a gap formed in the defence.
The Roos had a reprieve when their Lock Carey crossed wide in the minutes before the halftime break. However Parkes kept a narrow lead 12-5 going to the break.
The second half saw a change in pace from the Roos – from the restart the ball was gathered and a strong team effort had the ball over the line through the hands of the fly half Flynn. The extras were added and the scores were even.
A penalty infringement awarded to Roos saw them add a further 3 points and Parkes with a man down. Roos took the opportunity and crossed through a gap under the posts. The extras were added.
Parkes rallied – Dylan Hood’s defence was outstanding. He hit the attack hard and was rewarded with a great steal to deflect the Roos play. However it was not enough when the Roos winger pushed over for another try. Parkes rallied with Nathan Baker Matt hunter and James Dean working the ball across the field into the hands of Mitch Hutchings who pushed across the wing for his second. He added the extras.
With a 1 point game on the line Parkes kept the Roos attack camped in the centre until a loose pass was collected by the Roos out-side centre and he bolted to the line crossing at the wing. The conversion was missed. But it was right on full time and Roos took the match.
Best and fairest points: 3 pts Mitch Hutchings, 2 pts Dylan Hood, 1 pt Nathan Baker. Players player: Mitch Hutchings.
Next match will be on May 6 in Forbes against the Platypi.
Third Grade
3RD Grade played their first game of the season with most players meeting for the first time. Ben McIntyre in prop was having his first game back in seven years but that didn’t stop the enthusiasm. Blake Green, Nathan Baker and John O’Brien combined with the Webb brothers to give a lot of experience to the side.
Roos opened the scoring in the first 30 seconds with a try wide on the wing to the fly half Huggins. He proved to be the most dominant scoring of the match putting down 3 tries in the first half. Parkes responded with a try to the hard running Darcey James who teamed up with Toby Tanks to cross at the posts. Tanks added the extras.
An infringement gave Roos a penalty kick from the 15m mark – adding 3 points to the score. At half time the Roos were up 22-7.
The Parkes defence lifted in the second half keeping Roos scoreless. The Boars attacked and had several strong phases of play led by Richard Webb and Brendan Guise. The scrum settled and a rhythm to the game saw Parkes steal a ball from the line out through Blake Green and get it to Steve Irwin to cross on the wing. It was not enough with the final whistle giving the Roos the match 22-12.
Best and fairest points: 3pts Nathan Baker, 2pts Richard Webb, 1pt Joel Thompson 1 pt Darcey James. Players player: Nathan Baker.
Colts
The Roos Colts steamed rolled the under manned Parkes side with a 69-0 win on the weekend. Again the detriments of work and family commitments played havoc with the young side. However all credit to the team they fought hard and never dropped their heads.
The well-disciplined Roos side had the match from the start when they cross from the first kick to score under the posts. Jack Smith, Pat Jones and Caleb Allen worked hard but it was not enough.
Best and fairest points: 3pts Brad Burrell, 2pts Pat Jones, 1 pt Mark Coombs. Players player Brad Burrell.
This weekend of May 6th the Colts face off against the Forbes platypi. Coach Iszac Oliver is planning on a resurgence of the discipline that saw victory for the team against Mudgee.
