Captain Klenthis will acknowledge the 75th anniversary of the 1942 World War II campaigns, and the Battle of the Coral Sea. He will also share an insight into his time in the navy.
Captain Anthony Klenthis RAN
Anthony Klenthis joined the Royal Australian Navy in 1987 as a Maritime Warfare Officer and graduated from the Royal Australian Naval College in 1988.
During his career he served in HMAS Fremantle - patrol boat, HMAS Rushcutter – minehunter; HMAS Success – combat tanker, and HMAS Canberra and HMAS Sydney - guided missile frigates.
Anthony has undertaken numerous staff appointments ashore in Navy, including with the Australian Hydrographic Service, and key roles in Navy Strategic Command in Canberra, ACT, delivering advanced mine warfare systems projects for the Navy.
He qualified as an Intelligence Officer in 1997 and was posted to the Defence Intelligence Organisation.
Anthony transferred to the Navy Reserve and in 2007 commenced a senior executive role in the Australian Public Service in the Department of Defence.
He was responsible for the acquisition and sustainment of the national inventory of guided weapons and munitions for the Navy, Army and Air Force.
He drove the renewal of Australia’s industry capabilities for munitions production and oversaw the redevelopment of strategic manufacturing and storage sites around the country.
His team also successfully introduced Australia’s first long-range cruise missile capability into service.
During this time he represented Australia’s national interests overseas in dealings with the governments and armed services of the United States of America, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Israel and Singapore.
Anthony returned to full-time service with the Navy in 2013, and deployed on Operation ACCORDION and Operation HIGHROAD to the Middle East Region in 2015.
He was assigned to the NATO mission in Afghanistan as an advisor to the Afghan National Army.
His key role was to assist Afghan security forces in stabilising the country by generating well trained, well led combat personnel.
He received two NATO commendations for his efforts and was nominated for the US Army’s Meritorious Service Medal.
Anthony was promoted to Captain on his return from the Middle East in 2016 and currently serves in Navy Strategic Command as the planner of Navy’s future workforce.
He holds degrees in Bachelor of Science with Honours from the University of New South Wales and Master of Business Administration from the University of Canberra.
Breakfast will be served at the Parkes Services Club at 6.30am, followed by the march at 8.35am and the service at 9am.
