It was Ron Hetherington who cleaned up with a brilliant 45 points, some 9 shots under his 17 handicap which is sure to take a battering once the handicappers have their say. Hetherington’s round was highlighted on the front 9 holes where he returned a massive 24 points to set up the victory as the quietly spoken Credit Union employee fired an impressive two over par round of 37 and this long with a more conservative 6 over par 42 on the back nine enabled Hetherington to fire a great 79 off the stick and that to golfers is like winning the lottery as they continually chase that score of less than 80.
Ball Winners from Saturday’s round were 41 Steve Edmonds, 39 Rod Kiley, 38 Anthony Riach & Tony Hendry, 36 Richardson, Jake Hodge, Paul Thomas & Fini Latu and surviving golfs dreaded countback on 35 points were Wayne Tucker & Tim Burke.
In the Nearest the Pin awards the Idlerite Tyrepower 1st Hole was saw Greg Powter finish some 900cms from the flag while Ian Ward claimed the Griffins Leading Edge sponsored 4th Hole at 407cms while Steve Edmonds claimed the first of a double when he took home the Money Hole award after he hit a brilliant 8 iron to just 556cms of the pin while on the Dirt Doctor Landscaping 6th Hole Jake Hodge got the bragging rights when he finished 248cms away from the pin while Greg Powter made it a double after his solid 5 iron finished just 287cms away on the Harvey Norman sponsored 11th Hole and on the final Par 3 the difficult Westlime sponsored 15th Hole saw James Ward succesfull at 318cms.
The day’s final two awards, the Nearest the Pins in two shots on the Parkes Ready Mixed Concrete 9th Hole and the PJL Groups 18th holes saw Steve Edmonds record a birdie 3 after his approach shot finished just 344cms from the flag on the 9th Hole while Ray Griffith hasn’t lost his touch as he also recorded a birdie after his wedge shot finished 116cms away on the Par 4, 18th Hole.
