And this year the 38 artworks entered made way for an intimate and thoughtful exhibition.
The Waste to Art exhibition provides a creative outlet for aspiring and professional artists in the Parkes Shire.
Manager Cultural, Education and Library Services Shellie Buckle loves waste to art time and the waste reduction messages it brings to the Parkes Library.
"There are many entries this year inspired by the annual theme 'year of plastic bags and soft plastic packaging,” she said.
“Other waste materials such as nail polish, scrap metal, paper, old curtain material and wooden pallets share the creative and recycling message.”
The competition judges found the task of selecting winners challenging.
"Judging was very, very difficult. We were very impressed with the clever and imaginative artworks,” judges Ms Cummings and Ms McKean said.
It is a competition that demonstrates creativity and shares some wonderful personal stories! Come along to Parkes Library to see for yourself.
The winners were announced on Tuesday evening, April 11.
