Railway Men’s Bowling
Last weekend saw last week of the Pennants season at District level. We won two of our three grades and all three grades are now through to the Zone Playoffs. Firstly the No. 5s played the Canowindra at Canowindra and came away with a loss nine points to one but they were so far in front on the table that they couldn't be put out of the playoffs. Lee Hetherington, Peter Job, Graham Thomson and Geoff Leonard had the only win 19 to 13. Clive Stibbard, Steve Torrens, Peter Creith and SteveFrame had a loss 15 to 22 and Luke Ramsay, Rod Ramsay, Ray Griffith, and Brett Frame also had a loss 16 to 19 to make it one rinks to two with a losing score on the master board of 50 to 54 to give them a one points to nine loss overall.
The No. 6s played Condobolin at home and came up with a three rinks to nil win. The team of Tony Peisley, Marty Fitzpatrick, Tony Latter and Alan Cameron had a win 24 to 20, John Corcoran, Mike Valentine, Graham Cole, and Nathan Wills had a good win 26 to 16 and Brian Hampton, Mick Furney, Marcus Strudwick and John O'Malley had a close win 18 to 16 giving them 3 rinks to 0 and an overall winning score on the master board of 68 to 52 and a 10 points to 0 win. The No. 7s travelled to Condobolin and had a hard fought win 8.5 to 1.5. This keeps them on the top of the table and gives them a trip away to the Zone Playoffs. Bernie Coleman, Brian Smith, Mike Phillips and Alan Affleck had a 15 all draw. Terry Hetherington, Mike Parkes, Guy Bennett and David Law had a good win 22 to 12 and Ben McNaughton, Col Boehm, Col Hornery, and Paul Cross had a small loss 22 to 17. This gave us 1.5 rinks each but a win on the master board 54 to 19 and a win overall of 8.5 to 1.5.
Congratulations to all three grades for winning through to the Zone Playoffs. Thanks to all players and all the support from the club and the ladies for their sandwiches also the bar staff who looked after everyone on home games. The No.5s will be playing at home for their playoffs. The 6s will travel to Dubbo Railway and the 7s will travel to West Dubbo on May 27-28. More info on that later on.
Major Pairs match played between Ray Griffith, Baldy Frame against Frank Gersbach and Steve Frame. Unfortunately for Frank and Steve Ray, Baldy were too good on the day winning very convincingly 29-13 to advance to the semis. Good numbers for social bowls, much improved Tony Latter teaming up Lee Hetherington to win the day. Runners Up, Ray Bolton and Mick Furney. Saturday at 1pm the club will host a fund raiser in aid of the Greg and Sheree Phillips Family after young Brooke was involved in an nasty motor vehicle accident at the weekend. The day is mufti and invites all to attend, a sausage sizzle will follow bowls well as raffles etc. Club open, Good Friday, Saturday and Sunday but closed on Monday.
