Government affairs adviser Felicity Wilson is the strong favourite to retain the seat of North Shore in Saturday's by-election.

But Ms Wilson has been under fire since Fairfax Media revealed she had submitted an incorrect statutory declaration claiming that she lived in the electorate she hopes to represent for 10 years. Ms Wilson also had to retract an exchange with former prime minister John Howard on the campaign trail.

Now the candidate has denied misrepresenting her academic qualifications on professional networking site LinkedIn.

On the social media website Ms Wilson lists her educational qualifications as including a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Chicago's Booth School in the year 2016.

The degree is listed alongside an MBA from the University of NSW with the dates 2015-2017 and a Master of Public Policy from Sydney University between 2010-2014.

"I have recently returned to Sydney from Chicago, Illinois, where I was studying my Master of Business Administration at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business," Ms Wilson's personal summary on LinkedIn reads.

While Ms Wilson did spend a semester on exchange at Chicago University as part of her studies at UNSW, she did not take a degree from the Booth School, which The Economist has ranked as the world's most prestigious business school.

She denied the LinkedIn listing was misleading.

"It has always been well known, and indeed I acknowledged throughout the preselection process, that I am still completing my MBA," Ms Wilson said. "I was selected to complete a term of my studies at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in late 2016, where I completed three MBA subjects."

In her nomination forms for the plum seat Ms Wilson said she was due to complete her MBA in 2017 and she has said the same thing at recent candidate forums, according to local voters not aligned to her campaign.

Ms Wilson said she would submit a new statutory declaration correcting her claim to have lived in North Shore for 10 years after questions from Fairfax Media.

Electoral roll records and internal party documents links Ms Wilson to addresses outside her electorate for more than five of the past 12 years, with another three indeterminate.

Ms Wilson apologised for an "unintentional error" and said she should have said she had lived "in and around North Shore" for the "best part" of 10 years.

Making a false statement on statutory declarations can carry heavy penalties of more than five years' imprisonment.

Ms Wilson said she had made another unintentional error by telling former Mr Howard she had cast her first vote in an election for him while living in the seat of Bennelong in 2001.

Fairfax Media revealed Ms Wilson was enrolled to vote at a Marrickville address at that time in the federal seat of Grayndler. Ms Wilson said she had been confused with the 2004 election.

Ms Wilson has been under fire since the revelations. Influential conservative commentator Alan Jones called for her to withdraw from the race.

But Premier Gladys Berejiklian said she stood by Ms Wilson and candidate for Manly James Griffin, who a liquidator found may have traded while insolvent at a company of which he was formerly a director SR7.

North Shore, the former electorate of retired health minister Jillian Skinner, has been held by the Liberals for more than 20 years and rests on a two party preferred margin of more than 20 per cent.
