Police cordoned off the area between Honeysuckle, Thistle, MacKenzie and High streets on Monday afternoon after reports an armed man was in the area.
The man, believed to be aged in his early 30s with brown hair and tattoos, was last seen fleeing a stolen, silver Ford Focus and running near the intersection of Mackenzie and Honeysuckle streets.
He was wearing grey tracksuit pants and a black T-shirt.
Anyone who sees the man is urged to not approach him and to phone 000.
MONDAY 5.50pm: Police are now leaving Girton Grammar.
UPDATE 5.30pm: Police are again stationed in the area, with a number of marked and unmarked cars present outside Girton Grammar School on Vine Street.
UPDATE 4.25pm: Victoria Police has issued a further statement, saying Bendigo police were involved in an operation in the vicinity of Honeysuckle Street, Bendigo this afternoon.
Investigators were told a man, who is known to police, was seen fleeing from a stolen silver Ford Focus about 1.30pm.
He was last seen running near the intersection of Mackenzie and Honeysuckle Streets.
The man is believed to be aged in his early 30s, with brown hair and tattoos.
He is wearing grey tracksuit pants and a black T-shirt.
Anyone who sees the man is urged to not approach him and to call 000.
UPDATE 3.10pm: There are no longer roadblocks in place.
UPDATE 3pm: Victoria Police has issued a statement saying officers are searching for a man who is believed to be armed with a firearm.
The man is believed to be aged in his early 30s, with brown hair and tattoos.
He is wearing grey tracksuit pants and a black T-shirt.
Police have cordoned off the area between Honeysuckle, Thistle, MacKenzie and High Streets.
EARLIER: Police have cordoned off a number of streets on the border of Bendigo and Golden Square as part of an ongoing operation in central Bendigo.
Several police units are currently on scene in the vicinity of Honeysuckle, Lily, Thistle and Rowan streets.
It is believed police are searching for a man known to them.
