Parkes mayor Ken Keith said if Parkes is the closest location to successful baton relay applicants they could be carrying the baton through the town.
"It could be someone from Brewarrina or west of Parkes," Cr Keith said.
The baton relay will stay overnight in Parkes before making a detour to The Dish.
"The relay was the best kept secret in Parkes for about six month," Cr Keith said.
"It's great that Parkes has the opportunity to host this event.
"When you look at the size of Australia.
"Its a great opportunity to promote our community and we encourage as many people as possible to nominate for the baton relay," Cr Keith said.
The route of the relay in Parkes is yet to be released.
Parkes Council's Corporate Services Director Les Finn said the relay organisers are very keen on physical involvement in the event including those who are fortunate to have the relay stay overnight, which is the case in Parkes.
"We'll organise an event," Cr Keith said.
