Parkes mayor Ken Keith outlined this week plans for special celebrations and a swimathon to mark the last day of the swimming season on Sunday, April 2.
“We are making the pool available on this day for a Life Education Van swimathon as a fundraiser for the organisation,” Cr Keith, who will be taking part in the event said.
Cr Keith is currently seeking sponsorship for the event as well as participants to team up with him.
When the relay finishes at 4pm the pool gates will be thrown open with free admittance.
“The gates will be open for young people in Parkes to enjoy a huge inflatable and all pools in the shire will be open on the day free of charge,” Cr Keith said.
“There will be a sausage sizzle and all sorts of things,” Cr Keith added.
Council has teamed with Northparkes to occupy one lane of the pool for the swimathon.
