The eventual Premierships winners were:
Cambridge Cats who defeated Colts in A Grade. Reedy Creek Gold who defeated Reedy Creek Green in B Grade. Bowling Club who defeated Railway Pitbulls in C Grade.
Kelly Cup - A Grade at Woodward Oval:
Cambridge Hotel were crowned Kelly Cup Champions after a 29 run victory over the Colts in a pulsating final at Woodward Oval. The momentum shifted between the two A Grade sides constantly throughout the match, however devastating bowling spells from Clinton Hawke, Jacob Harvey & Cameron Rosser saw the minor premier's fall at the final hurdle. The match was umpired by local sporting identity Warwick Wheeldon.
Scores were: Cambridge 10/135 in 32.4 overs (Jacob Harvey 45, Mitch Cambourn 15, Zac Bayliss 14, Billy Porter 14, Blake Smith 3/42 off 8, Paul Dunford 2/24 off 7, Phil Dunford 2/25 off 8, Brent Tucker 1/25 off 8 & Will Moore 1/1 off 0.4) defeated Colts 10/106 in 33.2 overs (Myles Smith 27, Brent Tucker 24, Peter Yelland 22, Clinton Hawke 4/21 off 7.2, Jacob Harvey 2/28 off 8 & Cameron Rosser 2/19 off 8) by 29 runs.
Zac Bayliss and Mitch Cambourn opened the batting for Cambridge after winning the toss and featured in a 36 run partnership for the 1st wicket. Some fine bowling from Brent Tucker, Phil Dunford, Blake Smith and Paul Dunford saw the match evenly positioned at the drinks interval with Cambridge 5/80. Colts however rued a number of missed opportunities having dropped many catches, including Jacob Harvey. Jacob capitalised on his luck and scored 45 valuable runs for Cambridge and received strong support from Billy Porter. Wickets continued to fall for Cambridge with Blake Smit (3/42), Paul Dunford (2/24) and Phil Dunford (2/25) the chief destroyers and restricted Cambridge to 10/135 after 32.4 overs. In response, Colts received a great start to their innings with openers Peter Yelland and Myles Smith scoring 54 runs for the 1st wicket as the duo played some fine shots to have Colts well positioned for victory. However, with Colts looking set for consecutive premierships after claiming the 2015/16 Kelly Cup, a devastating bowling spell from Clinton Hawke, Jacob Harvey and Cameron Rosser along with excellent fielding and a well-executed run-out saw Colts suffer a major collapse and lose 7 wickets for only 12 runs as the score stood at 7/66. Blake Smith and Brent Tucker displayed their best efforts in attempting to lift Colts but were unable to score the required runs for the gallant Colts side. Cambridge should be commended for their great performance and will no doubt long remember this thrilling final and a match which was played in excellent spirit.
Coolabah Cup - B Grade at Spicer Oval:
As predicted prior to the grand final this would be a very close match. The good folk of Reedy Creek will long remember their exciting, desperately close game that saw Reedy Gold scramble home to victory by only 3 runs after a titanic struggle at the picturesque Spicer Oval setting.
Scores were: Reedy Creek Gold 6/134 in 30 overs (Jock Wright 38, Brad Fletcher 23, Paul Carty 17no, Jackson Glasheen 17, Jared Carty 14, Stuart Milne 2/21 off 3, Ryan Dunn 1/21 off 6, Cody Crisp 0/9 off 5 & Scott Knights 0/17 off 6) defeated Reedy Creek Green 10/131 in 28 overs (Lindsay Hughes 32, Stuart Milne 28, Ryan Dunn 23, Grant Dunn 13, Scott Knights 13, Paul Carty 5/13 off 5, Benji Glasheen 3/31 off 6 & Jock Wright 2/21 off 6) by 3 runs. Umpire was Greg Morrissey.
Batting first Reedy Creek Gold's opening batsmen Jock Wright and Jared Carty batted with plenty of responsibility and resolve against a very accurate Reedy Green attack. Cody Crisp and Scott Knights were very economical. After 15 overs the Reedy Gold score stood at 1/41. After the drinks break Jock Wright and Brad Fletcher began to push the scoring rate along before both were dismissed. Paul Carty and Jackson Glasheen both hit some mighty sixes to boost the eventual Reedy Gold total after 30 overs. Stuart Milne (2/21) and an impressive Ryan Dunn (1/21) were the key bowlers for Reedy Green. In response Reedy Green received a very positive start as openers Lindsay Hughes (32) and Stuart Milne (28) both played a series of crisp well executed strokes before Jock Wright was able to dismiss both players with his well flighted off-spinners. At drinks Reedy Green's score stood at 2/82 off 15 overs and looked set for victory. The Gold's under the inspiring leadership of Paul Carty and Jackson Glasheen kept on applying pressure as wickets began to tumble. Reedy Creek Green's player Craig Dunn fell to an amazing catch taken by Brad Watt off the bowling of Benji Glasheen. The Gold's grew in confidence as Paul Carty produced a laser-like accurate spell of bowling to cut a swathe through the tail end of Reedy Green to take a match winning 5/13 off 5 overs. Meanwhile, Jared Carty took a well-executed catch at deep long-on to dismiss Scott Knights as Reedy Green began to lose wickets. No doubt players from both teams will be keen to continue playing cricket in such an absorbing, well contested manner in the 2017/18 season.
Radiola Cup - C Grade at Northparkes Oval:
The Bowling Club team continued their splendid run of winning cricket as they were winners of the Radiola Cup for 2016/17 after grinding victory over a gallant Railway Pitbulls team at Northparkes Oval in a game umpired by Forbes based umpire Robert Ryan.
The scores were: Railway Pitbulls 10/119 in 29.3 overs (Shane Jones 38no, Garry Dukes 20, Tim Allen 15, Jacob Parker 13, Jake Brown 11, Alec Batson 2/27 off 6, Andrew Yeo 2/29 off 4.3, Shaun Bateson 3/9 off 6) lost to Bowling Club 6/120 in 26 overs (Nathan Hessel 39, Adam Parker 31, Alec Bateson 15, Brett Hutchings 15no, Shane Jones 3/9 off 6, Garry Dukes 3/23 off 6 & Jacob Parker 0/21 off 6). Nathan Hessel who was declared player of the match after playing a fine innings against high quality bowling to guide Bowling Club to victory. Batting first the Pitbulls almost batted out their allocated overs as the 'B Grade' player of the year, Shane Jones demonstrated his very capable skills in scoring 38no before he turned in a fine bowling spell of 3/9 off 6 overs to restrict the Bowling Club run chase. Shaun Bateson (1/11) led the Bowling Club attack; he also received good support from Alec Bateson and Andrew Yep who both collected 2 wickets. Bowling Club's score stood at 3/49 before Nathan Hessel and Adam Parker added 57 runs for the 4th wicket to put Bowling Club in a strong position. Garry Dukes made things difficult for Bowling Club by securing 3/23 off 6 overs before Brett Hutchings and Captain Matt Swindle combined to hit the winning runs.
