Speaking with the Parkes Champion Post during his last official visit to the town this week as the head of the NSW Police Force Mr Scipione said from his perspective “its probably better that others reflect on that, when asked his biggest achievement in the position.
“I’m proud of the men and women that wear that blue uniform every day who have driven down crime rates to the lowest level they have been in 20 years,” Mr Scipione said.
“I’m proud of the technology that we have been able to introduce, body worn video, dvec (Domestic Violence Evidence in Chief), taser, these are all of the things that the modern police force needs.
“I’m proud of the enormous fleet of aircraft that provides security and safety for this state but wider than that, we get drawn on from across Australia because people don’t have these assets.
“I’m proud of some of the legislation we have, unique to this state.
“Counter terrorism powers, again unique to this state.
“Gang powers, the power to stop and search.
“Be it people, be it equipment, be it legislation, we’ve done extraordinarily well.
“But it’s not about me” the commissioner stressed, “its about being able to get police results to make it safe for you and I.
“That comes down to the men and women in Blue, its not about the police commissioner,” Mr Scipione said before addressing officers with the Lachlan Area Command stationed in Parkes.
"Without you we wouldn't be in the position we are in as a police force, it's tremendous to be able to get the feedback we do and I get a lot.
"You are held in high regard and that seems to be growing as well.
"I don't own the cops, the community owns the cops, that's why we come to work.
"I encourage you to keep doing what you are doing, you are doing an outstanding job.
Prior to his address Mr Scipione was presented with a framed photograph of the Dish.
He then enjoyed lunch with the officers.
