Last year saw over 4,000 ABBA loving visitors descend on Trundle and 2017 is gearing up to be a Super Trouper crowd.
Little wonder, when the two-day program boasts stellar international talent such as their headline act Bjorn Again – the world’s number one ABBA Tribute band.
Bjorn again are the most successful tribute band of all time – and the only ABBA show praised by Benny and Bjorn of ABBA.
Bjorn Again’s high quality re-creation of ABBA’s timeless hits, combined with all the glitzy 70s stage costumes, Swenglish banter and hilarious stage antics, creates the ultimate live show that has been described as ‘pure joy’, ‘the ultimate escape’ and ‘the most fun you can have wearing platform shoes and flares’.
John Tyrell, founder of Bjorn Again said he doesn’t know of any other ABBA Fesival in the world.
“Once I was approached by someone who wanted to start a festival in Brisbane and I told them no, and if they did Bjorn Again wouldn’t be playing because Trundle is the original and the best.”
The Saturday night performance by ABBA tribute act, Bjorn Again, is a major drawcard for the Trundle festival.
The act has had sold out concerts all over Europe, Asia, the USA and Canada but John says the group loves performing at a festival that is fun and intimate and the singers can be a bit “incognito and really get amongst the vibe.”
This international talent will be backed up by superb homegrown talent, including singing trio from Parkes, Amitie, and The Kransky Sisters from rural Queensland.
For several years Amitie has been involved with regional events including The Parkes Elvis Festival, which is held in their hometown every January.
There, they have quickly developed a huge following of fans, both Elvis festivalgoers and locals alike.
These ladies are sure to entertain as they perform songs from the 50s, 60s and 70s - with their amazing combination of tones and fabulous harmonies, they will quickly sweep you back in time to the hits of Dusty Springfield, Petula Clark, Cila Black, ABBA, Aretha Franklin, Leslie Gore and many more wonderful artists from the era.
Meanwhile The Kransky Sisters will offer light relief with their popular award-winning musical concert.
Utilising a kitchen pot, toilet brush, keyboard, musical saw, tuba, guitar and duelling tambourines these three weird yet endearing spinsters present offbeat covers of songs ranging from Nana Mouskouri and Eurythmics to Talking Heads and The Bee Gees.
The Kransky Sisters have been regular guests on television including SBS’s In Siberia Tonight and ABC’s The Side Show and Spicks and Specks and BBC’s Comedy Shuffle.
It’s not just musical talent that will be showcased at the Trundle ABBA Festival; world class dancing will also be featured with Tristan MacManus and Alana Patience taking to the stage.
Alana’s ballroom career has spanned over 20 years with titles including twice Australian and South Pacific Youth Latin Champion and Australian Representative to the World Youth Latin Championships, along with two world tours of hit show Burn The Floor, Floorplay, and a move to The Netherlands to join the international cast of Dirty Dancing.
For the last ten years Alana has been a resident professional on Channel 7’s Dancing With The Stars.
Likewise, Tristan’s dancing history abounds with its own distinctions.
He is known as a professional dancer on BBC1’s Strictly Come Dancing, where he competed for the last two seasons.
Prior to participating on the original version of the show, he competed for six seasons on ABC’s DWTS America.
Tristan began dancing in his home of Dublin, Ireland before moving on to compete around Europe eventually winning numerous competitions.
After appearing in Ella Enchanted, he performed in theatre productions throughout Ireland, most notably in Cork City Opera House and The Gaiety Theatre.
Next, he joined the UK tour of Simply Ballroom and, after a successful tour in London and Las Vegas, went on to Australia and America where he toured as a featured dancer with Burn The Floor, Floorplay.
After Burn The Floor Tristan took to the stage acting and dancing on the West End playing the part of Robbie in the stage adaptation of the mega movie hit Dirty Dancing.
All of which promise a weekend of unforgettable entertainment at the Trundle ABBA Festival.
