The Paint Parkes REaD committee are excited to announce the 2017 theme as well as this year’s Parkes Community Reading Day date – being August 18.
The committee said there are various fun activities being held throughout the year in the lead up and to celebrate this year’s reading day.
In fact the first activity is about to start real soon.
The committee has come together to work with the Parkes Champion Post to host a ‘reading with/to a friend’ photography campaign.
Kicking off on Wednesday, March 1, the campaign will run through until October.
Everyone of any age is invited to send photographs of themselves reading with a friend or friends in to the Parkes Champion Post.
Be it grandpa reading to a child or vice versa, a parent to baby – or vice versa, child to child, child to pet, husband to wife, nurse to patient, or person to pet.
Let your imaginations run wild.
If you’re reading to something or someone, we want to see it.
Readers are asked to include their name and a contact number, and email it to both christine.speelman@fairfaxmedia.com.au and barbara.watt@fairfaxmedia.com.au.
Locals may also wish to post their photo or deliver it in person, and can do so by posting to or visiting the Parkes Champion Post 5-7 Court Street, Parkes NSW 2870.
At the end of each month an impartial community member will select their favourite photo for that month.
The winning monthly photo will be published in the Champion Post under the title “the friendship photo of the month”.
A photo of the winner being presented with their prize – a book – will also be published in the newspaper.
The campaign covers eight months, which means there will be eight winners – so get snapping. At the end of the campaign the Champion Post will publish an online photo gallery of all photography submissions so that all readers can enjoy looking through some of the creative photos readers of all ages have come up with.
The committee is encouraging everyone to get behind this fun promotion of reading together.
Any enquiries about the campaign can be made to Pietta Bridge on 6862 1872 or Rhonda Brain on 6862 1196.
