Thirty veteran golfers as they faced the starter on Thursday at Forbes Golf Club. Alf Davies (Fbs) returned to form with a win on twenty-nine points. Ted Morgan (Fbs) continued his good form as runner-up on twenty-eight points. Ron Klein (Pks) won the encouragement award. Alf Davies also got nearest the pin on the ninth in A Grade and Graham Cooke (Pks) in B Grade. Richard Hamilton (Pks) was the only player on the 18th.  The points, in the Mick Miller Shield, were again won by Forbes, 149 to 132. Next week we play at Parkes commencing at 10am. Our AGM will be held at Forbes on March 16.

Results for last week is as follows Topflights defeated Bears 6-0 in a 3 on 3 matchup players player going to Josh Townsend and Troy Daroczy. High scores went to Keith Rogan 125,140,122 and 2 x 100 Josh Townsend 119, 2 x 134 and 3 x 100 Troy Daroczy 125. Twist Tops defeated Strikers 6-1 with players player going to Teona Wakefield and Jayden Capple. High scores went to Jayden Capple 100, Dale Davis 100,118,140. Last game of the round saw the Pluggers defeated Budgies 6-1. Players player going to Brett Jones and Darrel Bailey. High scores went to Brett Jones 100,140, Darrel Bailey 4x100,106 and 140, Joe Vanopynen 2x100,121 and 160 Garry Barber 120,1.

Draw March 1: Twist Tops versus Star Budgies at TBC. Pluggas versus Topflights at the Parkes. Broadway Bears versus warriors at the broadway. Darts meeting at TBC at 6:45pm at least one person per team to be present.

Club Championships: February 23, one game of Major Singles was played. Dave Johnson played well early in the match and after ten ends had a lead of six shots over John Hodge. During the next ten ends John gradually got back into the match but Dave came back to win the match 31-27.

February 25 three games of Major Singles were played. Dave Johnson bowed out of the competition when he was convincingly defeated by Steve Turner. Warren Bevan had a win over Dean Searl and Col Mudie also advanced to the next round with a win against Steve “Nimo” Mills.

February 26 in a Major Pairs match Bruce Orr and Steve Ryan had a hard fought win against Col Mudie and Ron Hornery. With one end to play, Col and Ron had a one shot lead but on the final end Bruce and Steve scored three shots and win the match by two shots.

Pennants: The Pennant Season gets under way next Sunday, March 5. Our Grade 2 team is playing at home against Baradine and in coming weeks will meet West Dubbo and Dubbo City. Grade 5 will be away to Canowindra in the first round and will also meet Caragabal and Parkes Railway/Diggers. The seven’s are at home to Parkes Railway/Diggers and their other opponents are Peak Hill and Condobolin. Good Luck to all teams, hope you have a great season.

Social Bowls: February 23, fifteen bowlers turned out to play three games of Pairs and the others played “Scroungers”. After a titanic struggle over forty ends Col Hayward emerged the victor with 103 points from Keith MacRae with 87 points and Col Mudie (who retired after twenty-six ends with 80 points). Time will tell whether this form of Bowls catches on or not.

In a Pairs matches, Ray Jones and Greg Huggins outlasted Rob Irving and Bob Freeman. Les Kent and George Bradley were beaten by Ron Fisher and Gordon Dickson and, in the other match, Graham Barby and John Dunn had a convincing win over Graham Dixon and Ron Hornery. The Winners Prizes for the day went to Graham Barby and John Dunn. 

Saturday, February 25: Twenty-eight players joined the Club Championship players to play four games of Triples and one of Pairs. George Boatswain and John Watson had the best of the early ends and it wasn’t until the thirteenth end that Bruce Orr and Bill Skinner took the lead, 13-12. Bruce and Bill scored two shots on each of the last three ends to claim the match 23-18.

Results of Triples matches: Mark Dwyer, Ron Fisher and Bob Freeman proved too good for Col Hayward, Les Kent and George Bradley, winning 23-17. Steve Ryan, Col Woods and Joe Crowley -19 defeated Brett Frame, Rhona Went and Gordon Dickson – 12. The three “Johns” – Ward, Carr and Dunn had a win over Keith MacRae, Arthur Corbett and Rob Irving, 23-18. In the final match, Gary McPhee, Ray Jones and Greg Huggins had a convincing win against John Hodge, Ron Hornery and Gladrin Sun. 

Winners prize went to Gary McPhee, Ray Jones and Greg Huggins. Runners-up were Warren Bevan and Wilbur Harris, who was Marker for the Major Singles Championship match.

1300 Bugman Barefoot Bowls: Sixteen teams turned out to play some very close games. We Wreck ‘em  ‘N’ We Fix ‘em continued on their winning way beating Purple People, 12-10. Rebelle lead all the way for a narrow win against  The Bushies, 10-8. Pink were behind 8-9 before scoring five shots on one end and hanging on to beat  Bowls for Beers, 13-10. Elvii were down 7-6 but scored five shots on the last two ends to score a win against Loopy Loppers 1, 11-7. Casey Surveying proved too strong for The Royal winning 10-8. Central West Glass  had a good win over Happy Wanderers. Three Amigos  inflicted the first defeat on Parkes Shire Council winning 19-9. Bowl Bros. had a convincing win against Hi Rollers. – 22-9. 

The selector for March is Ann Currey, phone 6862 6229. Last Wednesday in social bowls Lorrane Baker and Dawn Parker defeated Liz Thorberry and Evelyn Gibson. Pennants will start on March 7. On March 7 Parkes Railway Digers has the bye but is in action on Thursday, March 9 against Cowra at Cowra. Wednesday, March 1 we will try to have pennant practice. We would like as many pennant players as possible to come for that. Also on that day we will hold a committee meeting at 1.30pm after bowls start at the same time.
