Those living with a disability - as well as their families and carers – in the midst of pre-planning their NDIS transition have the opportunity to gain a stronger understanding of the process, what’s to gain and how best to tailor services to their needs.
Not-for-profit disability service provider CareWest is hosting a series of information sessions in the Central West where people with a disability, their families and carers can get a greater understanding about what NDIS means for them and the important people in their lives.
CareWest customer Cheryl Chaplin said confusion about what the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) needs to know about her daughter Michelle’s disability and goals for the future was a considerable concern which was put to rest after attending a similar information session.
She said she now feels more supported and confident ahead of the changes.
“I don't think we know enough about it at present and definitely needed to attend to allay some of our fears or concerns,” Cheryl said.
“I believe from the session I received clearer understanding of what we are entitled to for our daughter, how the NDIS will be implemented and the assessment process. It was simply and easily explained to us at the session and questions asked were able to be answered.”
CareWest Disability Services Communications Officer Melissa Thatcher will be presenting the Parkes information session on Tuesday, February 14, from 11am – 1pm at the CareWest office Suite 3, 195 – 199 Clarinda Street.
Lunch is provided.
Topics covered will include: NDIS eligibility and how to apply, reasonable and necessary supports, goals, preparing for NDIS planning meeting (with a free pre-planning workbook provided) and getting support to manage planning.
“I think the CareWest NDIS Planning Pack helps you to understand what is going to be the process and how CareWest is able to assist us with planning and assessments...and that we won’t be doing it on our own, we have the assistance of trained and understanding staff,” Cheryl said.
All are welcome, there’s no requirement to be a CareWest customer to attend and discuss care options. RSVP for catering purposes to melissa.thatcher@cw.org.au or call 1300 CAREWEST (1300 227 393).
CareWest Parkes currently offer community, family, aged care and disability assistance services to residents throughout the region.
