Another good field of members contested the second round of the BWR Accountants and Advisors Summer competition last Saturday under near perfect conditions at the Parkes Golf Club.

Lady member Frankie Cock, playing off a 25 handicap, continued her excellent form when she recorded a comfortable 3 shot victory.
She recorded a brilliant 42 Stableford points.
The victory was highlighted by her consistency as she returned excellent scores of 21 points on both nine holes.
When informed of her victory the lovable Cock congratulated not only her playing partners but she praised the support given by the event sponsors, especially Brett Slack-Smith, one of the companies partners for his support.
Ball winners from Saturday’s competition went to 39 Tony Hendry and Tim Lasserre, 38 Duncan Constable, Robert Hey, Peter Bristol, Reg Davison, Rod Kiley and Wayne Tucker, 37 Tom Casey and Charlie Allen and surviving golfs countback on 36 were Lachlan Buesnell and Victor Gaidzionis.
In the Nearest the Pin awards once again the jackpot on the 1st Hole will rise after no player managed to get within the required 100cms of the flag after this week’s winner Lachlan Buesnell finished a distant 850cms from the flag and this week’s jackpot has risen to 70 balls.
Meanwhile in other Nearest the Pin awards saw Bob Barter clean up on the 4th Hole after his tee shot came to rest some 344cms from the flag.
This shot also allowed Barter to claim the Money Hole award, while on the 6th Hole Tim Burke snared the spoils when he finished 675cms from the pin and on the 11th Hole it was Peter Magill who got to celebrate when his tee shot came to rest just 273cms from the flag.
On the difficult 15th Hole Tony Hendry claimed the award after a great 6 iron that finished within easy birdie range of 149cms from the hole.
The day’s final two awards the Nearest the Pins in two shots on the 9th and 18th Holes saw Luke Clarke blast his 8 iron approach shot to within birdie range of 210cms of the flag on the Par 4, 9th Hole, while on the short 18th Hole it was Martin Woods who caressed a brilliant wedge shot to 179cms of the flag.
WEDNESDAY CHICKEN RUN
Despite the extremely hot conditions that saw the field decimated when just 15 players braved the conditions for Wednesday’s 9 Hole competition, it was a very hot Troy Thomson who took home the scratch award when he returned a solid 20 points while in the Handicap section.
For chicken vouchers Colleen Flynn posted a solid 20 plus 5 for 25, just 1 shot clear of Ian Phipps who finished on 20 plus 4 for 24.
The events lucky draw winner was Cathy Kelly.
This Wednesday’s 9 Hole chicken run will be held on the front nine holes and as a reminder, cards must be returned by no later than 6pm. Players are advised that the event is played with Preferred Lies applicable through the green.
CENTRAL WEST PENNANTS
The clubs selectors will this weekend have a tough task in selecting the four teams to represent the club in the 1st round of the Central West Golf Associations Pennant series which will commence on Sunday, February 4.
Division 1 is an Open Division while Division 2 is for players on Handicaps from 6 to 11. Division 3 is for players on handicaps between 12 and 17 and the final Division is for players on Handicaps in excess of 18.
The draw for the competition has been issued to clubs and in Round 1, matches it’s the traditional rivals Forbes will take on the Parkes teams in Divisions 1, 3 and 4. The Parkes Division 2 team will tough it out against Bathurst in matches to be played at Duntry League in Orange.
A nomination sheet is located near the club noticeboard for all those players who are interested in contesting the series that goes for approximately 6 weeks.
AUSTRALIA DAY CELEBRATIONS
The club will once again celebrate Australia Day when members, visitors and the like contest a special 18 Hole 2 Person Ambrose for trophies generously provided by the Parkes Australia Day Committee.
Players are advised that all scorecards must be returned prior to 5.30pm and that following golf the club will provide a complimentary sausage sizzle.
Parkes’s Australia Day ambassador media personality Susie Elelman will be at the club to present the trophies to the winners.
THIS WEEKENDS GOLF
This Saturday members will get to play the 3rd Round of the BWR Accountants & Advisors Summer competition with tee times being from 7am through until 1.20pm from the 1st tee for the 18 Hole Stableford competition.
Then on Sunday it’s a 9 Hole Medley Stableford competition for a club trophy.
LACHLAN VALLEY VETERAN’S GOLF COMPETITION
The initial Lachlan Valley Veteran’s Golf Competition took place at Parkes Golf Club on Thursday, January 19. All six associated clubs were represented, numbering 41. While the weather was uncomfortable, the scores were also hot.
In A Grade, Allan Jones (Grenfell) took out the major prize on 40 points on a count back from Ken Sanderson (Forbes). Graham Cooke (Parkes) cleared the field with an outstanding score of 44 points in B Grade, with Harry Rowling (West Wyalong) as runner up on 41 points, also on a count back from Phillip Thomas (Condobolin).
The Bell boys, Sonna and Roy (Parkes) got nearest the pins in A Grade, while Graham Cooke finished off a good day in B Grade. The Miller/Coles Shield points favoured Parkes with 121 points, West Wyalong second with 118 and Forbes third, 112. Next week, Australia Day, the Parkes Golf Club is sponsoring a 2 Person Ambrose, to be run for the entire day. Starting time nomination sheet is available at the club.
