Social Bowls: Thursday, January 12.
Twelve players took to the green, in near forty degree heat, to play four games of Pairs. The field included Peter and Gwenda Jackson who had travelled from Black Head on the Mid North Coast to attend the “Elvis Festival” and Ron Blake who was visiting his brother Jim.
In the only close game Gary McPhee and Jim Blake got away to a great start and after six ends had a 13-0 lead over Ron Blake and Gordon Dickson. Ron and Gordon gradually fought back into the match and by the sixteenth end the scores were level at 15 all.
The next two ends were won by Gary and Jim, who lead 17-15.
The nineteenth end went to Ron and Gordon who scored five shots but Gary and Jim scored three on the next end to level the scores again at 20 all. In a close fought last end Ron and Gordon scored one shot to take the match 21 -20.
In their match against Col Hayward and Gwenda Jackson, Rob Irving and Graham Barby were leading by the narrow margin of 19-18 before they won the last four ends to claim victory 24-18.
In the other match Tom Furey and Peter Jackson proved too strong for Col Mudie and Bob Freeman.
The Prize for the day was won by Rob Irving and Graham Barby.

They maintained the lead and with two ends to play Ron and John needed five shots to draw the match but could only manage four shots and John and Col claimed the match 19-18.

VETERANS GOLF
Only twenty-one veteran golfers made it to Forbes last Thursday.
This may have had something to do with the weather we are experiencing at present.
Peter Barnes (Fbs) continued his good form, winning by one stroke, 28 points, from Frank Hanns ((Fbs) on 27. David Williams (Fbs) won the Bradman award.
Garry Collits (Fbs) and Peter Barnes (Fbs) won nearest the pins in A Grade, while Larry Byrne (Fbs) was the only successful player in B Grade.
Forbes easily won the points in the Mick Miller Shield 152 to 58. Next week we have our first Lachlan Valley 18 Holes competition at Parkes Golf Club, commencing at 10am.
