For the third week in succession, it was Jake Hodge playing off a conservative 15 handicap who led the field a merry chase as he returned a superb 43 stableford points, which equated to an eight over par round of 79. It appears as though his handicap will once again come under close scrutiny.
Hodge’s round was one of consistency as he fired a dominant 4 under par score 22 points on the opening nine holes and then followed that up with an equally impressive back nine of 21 points. Hodge finished the day some three points clear of the field.
Ball winners from Saturday’s competition went to Robert Hey and Glen Buesnell on 40 points closely followed by Peter Boschman, Colleen Flynn and Ian Phipps on 39, Rod Kiley and Luke Clarke on 38 and surviving the countback on 37 points were Peter Bristol and Kasey Fay Rice.
In the Nearest the Pin awards the jackpot on the Idlerite Tyrepower 1st Hole has risen further to a mammoth 68 balls this weekend as long as a player can hit their Tee shot within 100cms of the flag after this week’s round saw Denis Howard finish a distant 556cms from the flag.
Tony Hendry cleaned up on the Griffins Leading Edge 4th Hole after his tee shot came to rest some 257cms from the flag.
This shot also allowed Hendry to win the Money Hole award while on the Dirt Doctor Landscaping 6th Hole Troy Thomson snared the spoils when he finished 291cms from the pin.
On the Harvey Norman 11th Hole it was Forbes junior Cameron McMillan who got to celebrate when his tee shot came to rest just 190cms from the flag and on the difficult Westlime sponsored 15th Hole, Ken Cobcroft finally claimed an award after a great 6 iron that finished some 9801cms from the hole.
The day’s final two awards the Nearest the Pins in two shots on the Parkes Ready Mixed Concrete 9th Hole and the PJL Groups 18th Hole saw Peter Bristol blast his 8 iron approach shot to within birdie range of 132cms of the flag on the Par 4, 9th Hole, while on the short 18th Hole it was Peter Boschman who caressed a brilliant wedge shot to 162cms of the flag.
BREAKFAST ON THE FAIRWAYS
The first ever Breakfast on the Fairways as part of the Elvis Festival has been classed as a success as a good roll up of locals as well visitors enjoyed a delightfully prepared tradional breakfast provided by the Tuesday Golfing Ladies.
We the club thank them for their tremendous efforts and after filling up on a hearty brekkie a very good field enjoyed the special 9 Hole Par 3 golfing event that was played from 9am with a shotgun start. This early start allowed the field to complete the course before the big heat arrived.
Visiting golfer Alex Smith certainly enjoyed the experience as he fired a great 21 nett to take the major spoils and in accepting his trophy he thanked the Parkes community for their excellent promotion of the Elvis Festival, as well as the organisers of the golfing event and to the efforts of the ladies in preparing the excellent breakfast.
Runner-up was Robert Simpson on 23 nett with Riall Harrison who is making a comeback to the golfing links taking the minor placing on 24 nett, while in the ladies Colleen Flynn had to survive a countback in winning that section with a very impressive 22 nett.
WEDNESDAY CHICKEN RUN
The results from last Wednesday’s 9 Hole competition saw Ian Phipps take home the scratch award when he returned a solid 20 points, while in the handicap section for chicken vouchers saw Warren Blatch lead home the field when he posted 19 plus 5 for 24, just ahead of Phil Bishop on 18 plus 4 for 23.
The events lucky draw winner was Troy Thomson.
This Wednesday’s 9 Hole Chicken Run will be held on the front nine holes and as a reminder cards must be returned by no later than 6pm. Players are advised that the event is played with Preferred Lies applicable through the Green.
