Both sides kitted up in their hunky best with matching white jumpsuits, big-hair wigs and (some) fake bellies.
The only way to tell who was on which team were the scarves – with the Reddy Teddies rocking a red scarf and the Blue Suede Shoes a blue scarf.
Despite the lighthearted nature of the game, all of the players gave their best. Which is especially notable considering the heat and humidity at the oval.
The match – now in it’s third year – was held over three 20 minute thirds.
“Or as a good mate of mine once told me, we play it in three 20 minute halves,” Reddy Teddies captain Dave Nichols said.
It was Reddy Teddy Joel Thomson who was the first to lock in points for the red team, taking the score to 5-nil in the first third.
But it didn’t take long for Jake Elliott of the Blue Suede Shoes to lift his team to equal the score.
They tumbled, they tackled, rolled and dived.
There was also the occasional ‘stacks-on’.
For the first time in the game’s history, the Elvii surpassed its record score of 5-all – which has been the final score for the last two years – in the second third.
By the end of that third the points were 10-all.
“At the moment it’s 10-all,” Nichols said at the end of the second third.
“I’ve got the feeling in my bones that potentially there’s another couple of tries in the game.
“The boys are playing hard, they’re playing it touch, it’s been a great day out.”
And what were his tactics going into the final third?
“To try and score more points is the best bet,” Nichols said.
Each side fought hard and by the end there were some stray wigs and torn up sequinned bell bottoms strewn about.
The final score was a 15-all 'draw' between both sides with a lot of the exhausted players being greeted by their Priscilla's waiting for them on the sidelines.
