Today’s fire danger is rated severe, with a forecast temperature of 35 degrees and expected wind gusts of 65 km/h, the Mid Lachlan Valley team said on social media.
It is recommended that harvest operations cease when wind speeds reach or exceed 35km/h and resume when winds ease.
The Rural Fire Service has a Voluntary Grain Harvesting Guide to assist farmers in determining whether or not conditions are safe to harvest.
This guide is in its infancy, and is being rolled out for trial during the 2016/17 harvesting season. More information can be obtained by calling your local NSW RFS office, or heading to the RFS website and searching “Harvest Guide”.
For any further queries please call the Mid Lachlan Valley Team on 68 511541.
A cease harvest has been issued in the Riverina, South West Slopes and Temora / Bland local government areas.
