In taking out the A Grade double Dixon had to survive a countback over Cameron Butler.
Both players fired excellent 1 over par rounds of 72.
However in the Handicap section for the PJL Groups trophy it was all plain sailing as Dixon returned a solid 68 nett.
Once again he survived golf’s countback system in edging out Wayne Butler.
In the minor grades, it was pleasing to see Colin Barker return to the winners podium when he took out the scratch in the B Grade section for players on handicaps of 13 to 18.
He played an excellent round of 83 off the stick while Ryan Thornberry edged out Barker on a countback to take the handicap section with a solid 72 nett.
In C Grade it was all Cody Hando as he returned a very impressive 86 off the stick from his 23 handicap to also take the double with the day’s best nett score of 63.
The veterans medal was won by Richard Hamilton with a 69 nett.
Meanwhile in the ladies section Lyn Davison, 72 nett, proved too solid to win that division by two shots on a day that certainly took its toll in the heatwave conditions.
The day’s final award, the Griffins Leading Edge Putting competition, saw Cameron Butler successful with just 21 putts.
It was the lowest number of putts recorded by a player since the inception of the competition.
Ball winners from Saturday’s round saw Dave Harwood top the list with a 65 nett.
He was followed by 68 Ron Hetherington and Wayne Butler, 69 Richard Hamilton and Rod Kiley, 70 Gordon Christie, 71 Peter Rowe, and Mark Kelly and Phil Bishop.
The remaining three balls went to Tim Lasserre, Cameron Butler and Phil Barnard all on 72 nett.
In the Nearest the Pin awards Colin Barker was the standout performer when he took out a double with victories on the Westlime sponsored 15th Hole at 482cms and his second shot to the PJL Groups 18th Hole came to rest 250cms from the flag.
Other victories saw Peter Bristol take out the Idlerite Tyrepower sponsored 1st Hole at 581cms.
Richard Hamilton capped off a good day with victory on the Griffins Leading Edge 4th Hole at 330cms and it also saw him record victory in the Money Hole award.
Wayne Butler snared two balls after his solid hit 4 iron to the Dirt Doctor Landscaping 6th Hole finished 308cms from the pin.
Not to be outdone, Butler’s son Cameron took out the Harvey Norman sponsored 11th Hole at 300cms.
And on the 9th Hole in two shots for the Parkes Ready Mixed Concrete award saw Tim Lasserre successful at just 94cms.
WEDNESDAY CHICKEN RUN
A solid 20 stableford points saw Ian Hendry record the day’s best score to win the Wednesday 9 Hole Chicken Run.
Meanwhile renowned golfing enthusiast Warren Blatch headed the voucher winners with 19 plus 5 for 24 points some two shots clear of Wayne Powter.
Powter finished with 17 plus 5 for 22, just one point ahead of Chris Goodie who returned 17 plus 4 for 21.
The day’s lucky card draw saw Brian L. Hogan as the winner.
The men will now be joined in the Wednesday Chicken Run by the ladies until they resume their normal competitions in March.
