Jock led all the way, running 30.40 for the 520m, beating some of the states best sprinters in the process at the good odds of $14.80 for the win.
Jock, as the greyhound is known, is owned by lifelong friends of the late Jock Colley, John Hutchings of Parkes and John Jones of Bathurst who also trains him.
“Jock had a great love of greyhound racing as well as his love of rugby league and Jock the greyhound looks to have a promising future with four wins and seven placings in 14 career starts,” John Hutchings said.
“With any luck he can land the $10,000 first prize next week in the final.”
Jock is out of the former champion greyhound Lady Arko who was part owned by Jock Colley.
Lady Arko was Australia’s premier stayer a few years ago when trained by John Hutchings and was named in honour of Jock’s good friend Ken Arthurson.
Lady Arko had a good weekend with Jock Colley winning at Bathurst, litter brother Crazed Blaze and litter sister What’s In Store both winning at Sandown Park in Melbourne.
Another litter brother Trapper John ran a good third at Cowra last Saturday night.
“Hopefully Jock can land the prize next Monday as he has a large cheer squad in both Parkes and Bathurst in memory of Jock,” John said.
