They were all the craze at Parkes East Public School when they hosted a mini Relay for Life the day before the official Parkes and District Relay for Life.
Students, parents and teachers trekked around the school’s oval to the sound of music for 30 minutes, before gathering for an assembly and munching on some ice blocks.
At the assembly, students were hand picked for having the best hats and presented prizes.
“It’s a brilliant idea to get the kids active while fundraising money for a great cause,” Cancer Council NSW's community engagement manager, Ricky Puata said.
“Lots of schools do mini relays.”
There were only two schools in Parkes who held a mini relay – the other being Middleton Public School.
“In some areas there’s as many as 10 different schools who do it,” Ricky said.
“The Parkes and District Relay for Life is really good, they do it biennially, alternating with Forbes.
“They always do a really good job.”
