Between 7pm Friday, October 21 and Monday, October 24, the SES responded to 126 requests for assistance after the storm damaged homes, cars and fences, and left several fallen trees scattered throughout town.
And of course there were a few wayward trampolines to fetch.
Phil said they received 65 calls for help within the first hour.
The Parkes unit had the assistance from Peak Hill, Trundle, Forbes, Cowra, Grenfell, Bathurst, Dubbo, Yass, Sutherland, Campbelltown SES units and the NSW Rural Fire Service.
Phil said over two days they had as many as 30 SES volunteers on the ground.
The combined effort was able to clear 123 requests by Monday, leaving only three that were finalised by the end of that day.
“This is an outstanding effort in such a short period of time by all involved,” Phil said.
“With everything else that’s happening around the state, units were giving up their time to help out in Parkes – it was an amazing effort.”
But it was the community the controller had the most praise for.
“The town helped us out by telling us to get there when we could, that they’d wait for us,” Phil said.
“We were very busy and it took time to get people in to help.”
Phil said the most common item they always came across during any wind storm was trampolines.
“They always end up in trees, they jump up into them,” he laughed.
“We encourage residents that when there’s chances of high winds, we need to deal with those (trampolines) and secure them.”
