Sergeant Ben Dawson said light bars and spotlights on vehicles are items that are regularly targets by thieves.
“They are often quick and easy to steal, especially if the bolts are accessible and it's a simple job to get them undone,” Sergeant Dawson said.
Some tips to make driving lights and light bars more secure:
- Use security nuts and bolts, such as anti-theft nuts or one way screws/bolts - there are a number of options available on the market these days.
- Have the light bar fitted behind the grill if possible.
- Some people weld a tab to the bolt so they can't be undone (but then they can't be undone if you want to remove your lights either).
- Have a mounting bracket custom fabricated to secure your lights.
- When parking at night, park in well lit areas, or even better, if possible park in a secure parking area, like a garage.
