The theme this year is “Spanish Red”.
Guest speakers for the night will include Stephen and Sarah Morse, who have spent time in Spain working at a safe house. Stephen has a PHD in human trafficking.
The event will take place at 6.30pm with supper for a 7pm start at the Parkes Christian School hall on Back Trundle Road, Parkes.
Stephen will also be speaking to the Men's Group of St George's Anglican on Thursday at 7.30pm; at St George's Anglican at 6pm on Saturday and 7.30am and 9.30am on Sunday; and Parkes Baptist Church at 6.30pm on Sunday
Why we do it
Because today, it is estimated there are at least 27 million people around the world who are trapped in some form of slavery.
Because, the average age of a victim of human trafficking is 12 years old.
Because men, women and children are being held captive and exploited for manual or sexual labour against their will and there is something that we can do to stop it.
Because currently, only 1-2 per cent of all victims are ever rescued.
Because we cannot rely upon the silenced to tell us they are suffering.
How you can help
The Parkes and Forbes community has rallied behind the cause with many local business and individuals donating items to be auctioned off on the night. Some items include:
- Signed Australian cricket bat from the 2014 South African tour.
- Signed Rio Olympics Hockeryroos uniform.
- Jewellery handmade by human trafficking survivors.
- Quilts donated by Marcelles Patchwork and Maureen Kent.
- A new Mitsubishi 3.5kw split system donated by Colin Mayo and TLE Electrical.
- Park bench donated by Discount Daves.
- William Plomp Kanga Hire.
- Kerin Physio Pilates pack.
- Gift voucher and flowers from Pink Orchid Florist.
- Car window tint from the Lees Family.
- Coffee Pot vouchers.
- Meat packs, homemade goodies, towels, mugs, gift vouchers.
- Much, much more!
Who we support
There are a number of wonderful organisations that are focused on the prevention of human trafficking, protection for victims.
This year the funds raised will support several of these: The A21 Campaign, Destiny Rescue, International Teams End Slavery Ministry in Spain (supporting Australian couple Stephen and Sarah Morse) and the Parkes Chapter of Days4Girls Australia.
Hope to see you there!
