Parkes Women’s Bowling Club
The Final of the Minor Pairs was played this week in a fantastic evenly matched game. Scores were neck and neck with score being 17–17 on the last end. An extra end had to be played to determine the winner and Isobel Svendsen and Frances Charlton got 1 point to be the winners at 18–17 defeating Laurie Keane and Marja Iffland.

Friday and Saturday this week, Maree Grant and Pat Cooney, winners of the Zone 12 Pairs Final will be playing in the State Playoffs in Tuncurry. In their first match they will be playing against Australian Champions, Kay Moran and Karen Murphy.
We wish Maree and Pat the best of luck. Melbourne Cup Hat Parade is next week so decorate your hats and enter Parade please. A Committee meeting will be on Friday, November 4 at 2pm. To play social bowls call Table Selectors Brenda Davies and Marja Iffland between 8.30am and am.
Railway Men’s Bowls
A busy weekend at the club last weekend with both rinks being utilised Club Challenege against West Dubbo, Several games of Handicap pairs plus social bowls.
The club went down to West Dubbo in the club challenge 2–4 overall 64-76 but after three matches the Railway still share the lead with West Dubbo with three matches remaining. Results: Peter Creith went down 24-25 in a hard fought match the pairs won by Luke Ramsay and Dougie Miller 25-17. In the triples Lee Hetherington, John Harcus and Clive Stibbard were soundly beaten 15 -32. The next challenge will be in two weeks at Dubbo .
In the handicap pairs Geoff Leonard and Mike Phillips defeated Neville Currey 27-18. Both Mike and Geoff are playing very good bowls and will be a force to be reckoned with come final time, Alan Cameron and Peter Job proved far too strong for Mick Mudiman and Colin Boehm winning 34-13. They also will be hard to beat, Col Ford and Tony Peisley got up in the two ends to win 24-18 against Pav Cross and Peter Creith. Petes team led most of the game. Congratulations to Col Ford who hasn't played a lot bowls of late but played excellent bowls, Col Hornery and Mick Furney defeated Gail Ford (who also hasn't played a bowls in few years but held her own) and Lee Hetherington 28-17. Its good to see so many nominate for this event which has created a lot of interest . Twilight bowls last Thursday night proved to be another fun night with 30 bowlers joining in the night was won by John Chew,Ben McNaughton and Garry Phillips. Runners up Dave Law, Nathan Wills and Peter Job, social bowls Saturday was won by Nathan Wills and Neville Whitfield runners up Mike Phillips and George Greenhalgh.
Sunday afternoon bowls was won by Maryanne Harcus John Harcus and lea tanks. No runners up. Wednesday winners Mick Furney and Dave Buggie Runners up Ian Simpson and Wally Grant.
This weekend hopefully both rinks will be full with the running of the Champagne Triples proudly sponsored by Parkes Services Club, Parkes Caravans Tooheys matches commence at 9am both days.
Unfortunately the Hungi set down for last weekend was postponed due to inclement weather but will be held within the next month. No social bowls this weekend due to the carnival. Coming up on the November 20 will be the inaugural Bob Collins Memorial Day sponsored by Daquinnoes Parkes Cellars and Grand Hotel drive thru.
The November 5 the club is conducting a working Bee commencing at 8am the committee are seeking as many of volunteers possible to put their name on a sheet to make things a bit easy (a sheet will be on the board). The kitchen is still being revamped but there will be meals tonight as well as courtesy bus.

Parkes SSAA Smallbore Rifle
Last week saw ten shooters attend the Deep Lead shooting complex on the back Trundle Rd (Victoria St) 6km West of the main street and shoot at Buffalo targets at both 25 and 50m for a max of 520 points. It was a beautiful sunny day with a south west wind blowing.

And two for practice only. Our next shoot is at 10am Sunday 30.10.16 and will be the new SSAA International Targets and all shooting will be at 50m it has 50 small scoring and only one shot is fired at each, the bullseye is only the width of a bullet, this will test most shooters.
Basyl has returned to the range after 5 months layoff and hasn’t lost any of his shooting skills, welcome back. Remember we are restricted to low to mid velocity 22 bullets until we are able to add extra height to the stop butt, and we have the popular SK brand of bullet out at the range each week for licensed shooters. We also have 3 license testers if you require a license test, Ring Brian 6862 1969.
Bridge News
October 20 we played a six table Mitchell movement at the Leagues Club. Our usual venue is undergoing renovations at the moment. North south winners were Peter Quin and Louise Payne 67.2 per cent, Wendy Andrews and Keith Fiedler 57.3, Margaret Hawken and John Quin 49.5. The east west tops were Greig Ball and Suzie McNamara 60.6, Anne Berkeley and Gai Baker 60 per cent, Fay Davis and Jeanette Jackson 48.8.
Monday night, north south winners were Suzie McNamara and Beth Thomas 58.7, Wendy Andrews and Robyn Sheridan 51.7, Rosemary Morris and Anne Berkeley 49.5. On the east west side Jennifer Calvert and Dawn Phipps topped with 60.4, Gai and Tim Baker 57.9, Warren and Nancye Blatch 51.5.
October 25 game was a Howell movement and the winners were Audrey Somers and Suzie McNamara 61.5 followed by Greig Ball and Jenny Freeman 59.4 and Keith Fiedler and Fay Shaw 57.3. We put up with a bit of banging and drilling from the carpenters but the end result of their work will be a brand new kitchen in the next week or two.
