They will travel to Coffs Harbour for a tournament this weekend where both players will hope to gain selection in a NSW side picked from the eight teams in action.
Both boys have played for the Parkes Junior Boars for four years and have been standout performers for their respective teams.
This year the Boars were unable to form an Under 17s side, forcing Sam (16) to play a full season for the Forbes Platypi where he was awarded Best Back.
Ben (15) played junior rugby league for Parkes Marist and also in the Group 11 Under 16s side.
When his Group 11 commitments were finished, he played a few games for the Forbes Platypi Under 17s to finish off the season.
Both boys are looking forward to the tournament this weekend.
“I’m pretty excited about it,” Ben said.
“I’ve played representative union for a few years now.”
This is Sam’s first selection at representative rugby in either code.
“It’s great fun,” he said.
Sam also plays touch for Parkes Pumas and Red Bend.
The championships at Coffs Harbour this weekend include both boy’s and girl’s tournaments.
It will be used as a talent identification tournament for the NSW Waratahs 7s program which underpins the national program.
Key personnel from country, state and national rugby bodies will be attending to identify young rugby talent for future NSW 7s honours.
The best of NSW’s young Rugby 7s players will travel to Newcastle in November to play in two state championships.
NSW Rugby Union has also announced the NSW Waratahs Men’s Under 20 State 7s Championship and the NSW Waratahs Women’s Open State 7s Championship will be held at Newcastle on the weekend of November 5 and 6.
Rugby 7s is generating great interest and the success of both the Australian women's and men's teams in the recent Rio Olympics has many people talking about the exciting 7s format.
