But for one Parkes resident, it felt like it lasted forever.
Katrina Marie is thanking her lucky stars she and her 10-year-old son weren’t injured after being caught in the middle of the storm while driving home.
Here’s the tale of her frightening ordeal she told on the Champion Post’s Facebook page at 10.22pm Friday:
“Angus and I got caught in it, we we're so lucky not to be killed! We're still very shaken.
“We were heading home from rep cricket tryouts and only just made it home! We couldn't see, couldn't stop because trees where bending and one fell down behind us.
“I think a part of it hit the roof of my car, then lightning hit a power poll next to us and showered us with sparks, they were everywhere!
“I couldn't even tell what side of the road I was on some of the time but I couldn't stop for all the trees and debris hitting us...it was like a horror movie!
“I finally made it to our mailbox, couldn't even see that ‘til we were right on it. Drove all the way up our drive to the house and when we reached the shelter of the carport, Angus and I began breathing again!
“We just looked at each other and burst into tears hugging, and thanking God he heard our prayers!
“It was so scary...I was repeating the 'Our Father' getting louder and louder the closer we got to home! I kept thinking any sec a tree could land on us and we'd be gone!”
