Well on Saturday it was a clear and precise victory for the ladies as Margaret Hogan and Kasey Fay-Rice survived golf’s dreaded countback to take out the R. L. (Bob) Smith Memorial trophy for trophies generously provided by Michael Smith and family at the Parkes Golf Club.
In achieving their victory in the 18 Hole two-ball medley best ball stableford event Hogan and Fay-Rice finished on 45 points.
It was the same score as fellow competitors Tony Hendry and Peter Bristol and Ron Hetherington and Peter Collins, but it was the victors who recorded the better last nine holes to take the trophy.
In the individual awards in the men’s 18 hole stableford, victory went to Ron Hetherington on 40 points while Colleen Flynn, fresh from a golfing holiday, was victorious in the ladies individual with 36 points.
The best final nine-hole score was recorded by Peter Bristol with 21 points.
Both Bristol and Flynn congratulated the Smith family for their support of the day especially that of the family matriarch Ann who has continued to support the club but left the organising of the day to son Michael, whilst youngest daughter Alison was bestowed the duties of presenting the trophies.
Nearest the pin awards went to Chris Goodie at 680 centimetres on the Idlerite Tyrepower first hole.
Brendan Simpson at a very close 70cms on the Griffins Leading Edge fourth hole while Peter Collins can thank his lucky stars as Simpson failed to nominate for the money hole award and he duly won the award at 293cms.
Barry Whittaker collected two balls when he finished 390cms from the pin on the Dirt Doctor Landscaping sixth Hole, Geoff Leonard took out both the Harvey Norman sponsored 11th hole at 905cms and then backed it up with a great shot to 844cms on the final par three, difficult Westlime sponsored 15th hole.
The day’s two final awards went to Peter Bristol, victorious on the Parkes Readymixed Concrete ninth hole in two shots when he finished 302cms from the pin and Terry Johns, on the PJL Groups 18th hole, also in two shots to 365cms to claim the two golf balls.
