The weather was perfect and made for a fabulous day.
Entrant numbers were down just a little on last year but organisers were still very pleased with the turn out.
Organiser Christine Miskell said there were a total of 174 entrants including 39 motorbikes.
“The entrant numbers were fantastic,” Christine said.
“Volunteers from Can Assist manned the gate with the gold coin entry fee directly donated to the Parkes branch and this year Can Assist took in a massive $2675.”
Pat Bailey from Can Assist was extremely happy with this, plus the $700 raised from their own stall and raffles.
Add to this the final donation from the CWCC and the day was worth almost $10,00 to Can Assist, a huge boost for a very worthy local charity.
The CWCC would sincerely like to acknowledge all the sponsors who make this possible by donating money, goods and services.
“The support from local businesses is overwhelming,” Christine said.
The general comment around Pioneer Oval on the day was all positive.
Friendly people, lots to see and do and a wide range of vehicles made for a successful show.
Given that this year’s feature was motorbikes, it was fitting that the range of bikes spanned an entire century thanks to the entry of Parkes man, Bob Steel’s 1915 Douglas which took out a trophy for Best English Bike.
Other notable award winners were the Parkes Tyrepower major sponsor’s choice going to Ian Kirk with his unique Opal Glow Ford XW GT Replica, PAMC sponsor’s choice to Dean Lavers from Millthorpe for his 1961 VW Microbus and the Shannons Insurance sponsor’s choice to Dick Jefferay’s 1955 VW Beetle.
Bike of Show went to the 2012 Harley Davidson Fatboy owned by Dwayne Boan from Mudgee, and Car of Show went to Rod Goodsell with his meticulously restored FE Holden sedan which also took out the Aidan Ashcroft Memorial Trophy amongst other awards.
The popular People’s Choice of the day was awarded to Mark Woods with his 1954 FJ Holden Ute from the Bathurst area.
The Aussie Commodore club attended with cars from Sydney and Canberra, not to be outdone by a group of young Commodore owners from Parkes who put on an equally matched display of some good looking cars that we typically see around our own town.
Simon Manchee travelled all the way from Brisbane in his Ford RTV ute for about his fifth year to take out the furthest travelled award.
Thoughts are already turning to the show for 2017.
Hopefully we can continue to combine with the Parkes Antique Motor Club’s swap meet which enjoyed a successful day as well in this, the first year that the two events have been held together.
