Once again it was another glorious weekend for golf with brilliant spring weather on Saturday and then on Sunday strong winds certainly made conditions a lot tougher as did the number of snake sightings.

The club hosted both the Men’s and Ladies Mixed Foursomes Championships on Sunday and Saturday, which saw the club’s life members sponsor the annual 2 person ambrose.
In the Dixon Physiotherapy sponsored Men’s Foursomes Championship over 36 holes, it was all plain sailing for Peter Dixon and John Green as they made it their fifth championship title in past decade.
They cruised to a comfortable 8 shot victory after firing rounds of 74 & 79, with Cameron Butler and Lachlan Buesnell finishing runner-up after they held off the fast finishing Joey Van Opynen and Justin Sutton by a mere shot.
Dixon and Green also topped off a great championship event as they also took home the Dixon Physiotherapy sponsored handicap section with a score of 145 nett for the 36 hole event.
In the Consolation Division halfway leaders Tony Hendry and Peter Bristol continued on in brilliant fashion as they recorded scores of 85 & 87 for a 172 total, to finish 10 shots clear of runners-up Wayne Parker and Michael Smith.
Meanwhile in the Dixon Physiotherapy sponsored handicap section Hendry and Bristol were also at the forefront as they cleaned up to finish on 141 nett.
Awards were also presented to each round in the 18 hole handicap sections with Denis Howard and Phil Barnard, 70 ½ nett, getting the initial 18 hole award.
Peter Boschman and Tony “Scrubba” Evans cleaned up in the final round with a superb 66 nett.
At the presentation of awards, all trophy recipients were full of praise for the sponsor but felt the event could have been better supported by the members.
In the ladies 27 Hole Foursomes which saw Betta Home Living and Network Video as joint sponsors, once again it was reigning titleholders sisters Lynne Guise and Kaye Jones who retained their title in comfortable fashion.
Cherrie Phillips and Glynis Conroy finished runners-up.
The new pairing of Colleen Staples and Dawn Wakefield proved that form on the board is good form as they took out the Consolation Section from Lesley Fisher and Denise Charlton.
Staples and Wakefield also taking home the sponsors handicap award in that section.
On Saturday the club’s life members of Cliff Cowell, Lionel Grady, Wally Norman, Paul Thomas, Colleen Flynn and Doug Lindsay provided the trophies for both men and ladies in the 2 person ambrose event.
In the men’s section the victors were Max Keith and Wayne Tucker on 64 nett, while Margaret Hogan and Frankie Cock reigned in the Ladies on 72 ½ nett.
Nearest the Pin awards went to Ray Griffith at 400cms on the Idlerite Tyrepower 1st Hole, Paul Thomas on the Griffins Leading Edge 4th Hole at 176cms (this shot also enabled him to take home the Money Hole award on the same hole), Richard Hutchison collected two balls when he finished 563cms from the pin on the Dirt Doctor Landscaping 6th Hole, veteran golfer Terry Walsh proved too hot on the Harvey Norman 11th Hole when his Tee Shot came to rest 148cms from the pin and on the final Par 3 the difficult Westlime sponsored 15th Hole it was a proud Colin Barker at 735cms who claimed the two golf balls for the second week in a row.
A brilliant recovery shot by Wayne Parker saw him claim the Parkes Readymixed Concrete sponsored 9th Hole in two shots with a shot that finished some 367cms of the pin.
On the final hole the short Par 4, 18th Hole also in 2 shots for the PJL Group sponsored award it was Ray Griffith who claimed the award at 110cms.
Ball winners on the day went to Tim Baker & Tim Burke on 62 ½, Steve Edmonds & Col Barker, 64 ¼, Shen Taranto & Robert Hey, 64 ½, Ron Hetherington & Brent Tucker and Cameron & Wayne Butler both on 64 ¾, and on 65 were Peter Picker & Brian Hogan.
SUPER 6S SUMMER GOLF COMPETITION
Team nominations close today for the Parkes Golf Clubs popular Summer Super 6s Golf competition and team entries must be accompanied by a fee of $30.
Teams can consist of up to 8 players with teams entitled to field 6 players each week with the best 4 scores to make up the teams total weekly score while all scores from all players who contest the round will be used in the Individual competition that will be conducted in conjunction.
Nominations forms are available from the clubhouse or the Golf Shop as well as Parkes Mensland, Parkes Visitors Centre and Northparkes Mines.
The draw for 1st Round will appear in Friday’s Champion Post.
PAR 3 CHARITY DAY SUNDAY
The club will host a Par 3 Charity Golf Day this Sunday with an 18 Hole event that commences at 10am.
All players who contest the day have the chance to win a fully funded return trip to Adelaide for the 2017 ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open for 5 days.
The cost for the day is $30 and includes a barbecue lunch, trophies and Nearest the Pin awards.
All money raised on the day will be utilised on pathways at the clubs and members are urged to form a team.
This day is part of Golf Australia’s October Month of Golf.
LADIES FINALS DAY
This Thursday several Parkes ladies will travel to Cowra to contest the finals of the Western Districts Ladies Golf Associations Pennants that will see the Parkes ladies contest the final of the Pennants when they clash with the strong Dubbo club.
Also being contested is the Champion of Champions trophy that sees are club champions contest a 18 Hole Stroke round to see who is the District’s Champion and the club wishes Cherrie Phillips all the best in this premier event.
THIS WEEKEND’S COMPETITIONS
This Saturday both the men and ladies will contest a 18 Hole 2 Ball Medley Stableford with 9 and 18 hole Individual competitions in conjunction.
Members are also urged to bring along a non-member, and if they do both the member and thenon-member will have their competition fees waived.
The day also has the added significance of being the R.L. (Bob) Smith Memorial Day and Michael Smith and family will provide the trophies for the day.
