And it was action aplenty as teams took to the court at the Parkes Tennis Centre.
Some players had said early on their racquets had been hung in the cupboard all winter so their form was unknown.
A few muscle complaints on Wednesday morning may have been more to the point.
Some singles matches were hard fought with long rallies and plenty of running to retrieve shots.
The Bush Pigs certainly made their mark and all teams were put on notice as they started their summer campaign in style.
They carved up Deuce Bags only dropping a few games in a 6 sets to 0 rampage.
Crumbling Biscuits are on a mission this term to show their former team mates that they are the ‘chosen 3’ and were in fine early season form when they took on Lucky Strings.
The Bickies team captain Aaron Arnott was down early against Scott Knights, an all round sportsman who grew up with silky smooth tennis skills.
Scott seemed surprised with his strokes after the winter break.
But alas, reality set in and Aaron set about clawing back Scott’s early lead and did so winning a string of games to take the set 6/4.
He led the Crumbling Biscuits to a clean sweep of sets.
Top Shelf and Net Result had a good tussle with matches evenly contested.
Top Shelf went on to score a 4-sets-to-2 win.
Great to see Neville Kennedy take to the court for Top Shelf as he spends any time at tennis picking up balls for his daughters lessons.
Julian Fyfe has been enjoying his Thursday men’s tennis hit and showed his skill to score a comfortable win in his singles match.
Wonderful to see Bec Jones on court again after many years in premature ‘retirement’.
Bec was a competent junior in her day and travelled around to regional tournaments.
It’s good to have her back enjoying her tennis.
Bec joined Trev’s Troopers team and might have had a few aches and pains after her close 6/5 win over Josh Drabsch.
Also welcome back to Josh.
He has had a try at other sports and decided he did enjoy his tennis.
Josh joins the fabulous Potts twins Hannah and Phoebe in Scared Hitless.
The Scared Hitless are on fire and will be real contenders this comp.
Scared Hitless went on to win the match 4 sets to 2.
Bandana Bandits have started their comp in fine style with a 6 sets to 0 blitzing over Rac-Attack.
JAG were happy with their close win over Smash Hits 4 sets to 2.
