Each year the team enters in the Primary School Sports Association Knockout competition (PSSA) where teams have to win every game in order to stay in the competition.
PPS are the NSW runners-up in a competition that consisted of 82 hockey teams from around the state.
After a first-round bye the Parkes Public Boys hockey team played their first game against Parkes East.
The team played very well defeating Parkes East 8-1.
Their next game against Dubbo South saw the boys come away with a 4-0 victory.
PPS then faced Calare Public school in the Western Region final. The team showed great skills and won 6-1, qualifying for the State Finals in Narellan.
The PPS team travelled to Narellan on September 11, primed for an early game the next day. The boys began the state semi-final against Erina Heights Public School.
A tough match but PPS persevered, showing determination and winning 2-1 on the final hooter.
Much to everyone’s delight this win gave PPS a spot in the PSSA state final against Westlawn Public School (Grafton). PSS had a strong start and both teams were showing the crowd why they were in the final. PPS gave their all, and extra, but unfortunately they weren’t able to come away with the win.
The Parkes Public School community is extremely proud of the team and their commitment to hockey.
They trained on a weekly basis for two terms and displayed great talent and sportsmanship.
In a proud moment the team were complemented on their behaviour on and off the field by the state hockey convener.
The team and school would like to thank coach Graeme Tanswell, manager Mrs Elliott and all of the parents who committed to transporting them to training and matches across the area, and to Narellan.
