Sixty-five people attended a very enjoyable afternoon to help celebrate Betty’s 93rd and Heather’s milestone 60th.
Family and friends travelled from Brisbane, Canberra, Sydney and Perth for the occasion.
Betty has lived in Parkes for the last 25 years. Prior to that she lived on the family property “Riverview” at Peak Hill.
Betty has seven children – Bill (Canberra), Grant (Sydney), Jenny (Newcastle), Anne Pitman (Perth), Rod (Brisbane), Stephen ("Riverview" Peak Hill) and Heather (Parkes). They rarely get the opportunity to get together, the last being Betty’s 90th birthday.
Betty still proudly sponsors prizes for Merino sheep and fleece at the Parkes Show each year.
She recently passed her driving test again. Betty is remarkably active for her age and manages to visit Heather most days at Niola. She enjoys her weekly card group and art classes and keeping in touch with her far flung offspring.
Heather has been a resident of Niola Nursing Home, Parkes for the last 15 years. She was involved in a tragic horse accident when she was a teenager, more than 40 years ago.
Staff from Niola joined family and friends at the party where each of the birthday “girls” had their own cake.
Heather was very excited about being famous and the centre of attention for the entire weekend. She enjoyed a family brunch on Sunday.
