That’s the verdict on the condition of the Endeavour Oval surface after a battle of a Blowes Clothing Cup grand final, Emus winning 14-11 over a spirited Forbes outfit.
The boggy surface – one that was churned up thanks to four lower grade games prior to first grade – was a massive talking point on grand final day, with Platypi skipper Jack Hammond saying the muddy conditions were “unfortunate” on the biggest day of the season.
“You can’t do anything about it. It’s very disappointing. It’s been a shocking year … go to Forbes, we’re under water,” he smiled.
“It’s been a tough game but I think everyone here would have lioked to have seen a bit more running rugby and a few more skills on display. When it’s like this it’s more of a bash-fest.”
Andrew Logan shared a similar sentiment.
“It’s a freak year and you’ve just got to deal with it,” he said. “I don’t ever remember a year in Orange with this much rain.”
