We support families and their children, youth, people with disability, older people, and the carers of these people. Last year our youngest client was one week old, while our oldest clients are aged in their 90’s.
We have over 30 staff members who work in 14 different programs and over 150 volunteers who assist and support our clients; all aimed at helping people who are vulnerable to maximise their independence, well-being and participation in the community.
Meal Services is one of our most recent programs where Neighbourhood Central received funding under the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) in 2013.
By combining Community Transport and Social Support funding streams with Meals funding, Neighbourhood Central is providing a variety of affordable social outings and meal services.
Nutritious meals are provided, enabling clients to manage their health and well-being and they can also maintain an active social life, helping to reduce isolation.
Clients have also benefited by increased social interaction, ability to learn new skills, decreased feelings of loneliness, and reconnecting with others in the community in healthy and supportive ways through our twice-monthly craft groups in Parkes and Forbes, as well as enjoying excursions. In addition to these outings, Neighbourhood Central has expanded its services to provide frozen meals, remaining a one-stop-shop for our clients.
With easy ordering and pick up, or free home delivery, Helen Cusack and Jeanine Swindle are the friendly staff who can assist clients with frozen meals. Helen and Jeanine bring a wealth of knowledge to the service, with over 30 years combined experience.
The frozen meals are convenient, affordable and are subsided for eligible clients. Clients can also look forward to the re-commencement of community luncheons at the centre.
A new afternoon High Tea complete with delicious sweet treats will also begin next month, which will all be cooked and served at Neighbourhood Central.
For further information, please visit Neighbourhood Central located at 80-82 Currajong Street, Parkes or call 02 6862 3757 where services are provided with the support of dedicated staff and the volunteers who so generously give up their time.
We all look forward to making a difference in people’s lives.
