The show committee met with the Narromine Turf club on Wednesday morning to make the decision to cancel Saturday’s show.
President Jodi Browning said they had decided if they received 20ml of rain before the weekend they would not be able to continue with the show. As of Wednesday morning 15ml had already been recorded.
“There is a lot more rain forecast over the coming days as well.
“We are deeply disappointed to have to make this decision, as the bulk of the work has already been done by the committee.
“It’s not one we made lightly, but if you can see the amount of rain lying around you can understand why we have had to do it.”
Ms Browning said the photography section had already been judged and the judging of the school children’s artwork would still occur today.
A selection of the winners from the photography and schools categories would be displayed in town.
On Tuesday Ms Browning told the Narromine News that the show committee had decided this year it was to be all or nothing.
“If we decide to cancel, we cancel everything. We can’t ruin the Showgrounds,” she said.
The trucks holding the rides have started to make their way over to Narromine, Ms Browning said but she is concerned the rides could get bogged and chop up the grounds
“We can’t have them here, getting bogged and digging up the ground,” she said.
The show has not been able to be rescheduled, as it is unable to fit within the Showman’s Guild timetable for the rest of 2016.
Narromine is expected to receive 105mm of rain over the next few days.
