Israel Symington led his men to a 17-10 win with steady play and attention to detail.
Despite being down 10-5 at half time the Boars came back strongly keeping Orange scoreless in the second half while adding 2 tries and a conversion to their own score.
Prop Josh Cornellison, utility forward Ben Ryan and halfback John Rathbone were the standout players across the field. Hooker Tim Lawler played one of his strongest games of the season.
The first 5 minutes were scoreless until Orange lock Scott Smith crossed for the first and only try from the back of a penalty scrum on the 10m mark. The conversion added a further 2 points and gave the lead to Orange 7-0.
It was a further 20 minutes of high intensity rugby until Parkes was able to capitalise on a lapse of concentration by the Orange defence.
Full back Joe Nash collected a loose pass and made 25m through the defence.
Sending the ball wide to a flying Mat Clark on the wing – Clark crossed the line. The conversion was missed. 7-5 to Orange.
From the restart Parkes attacked through the forwards, Symington making good metres and a wide spiralling pass to Clark added further metres and had Orange scrambling. Ryan was within 10m and with a well placed inside pass sent Rathbone over the line but was “held up”.
Back on the 5m Orange stole the ball from the scrum and moved up through the centre, where Parkes were pinged for obstruction. Orange opted for the penalty goal, extending their lead 10-5 before half time.
A more focused Boars, who knew their season was on the line, had the majority of the ball played in the Boars’ end during the second half.
After seven minutes of play Symington barged across the line, wide of the posts. The conversion was wide but Boars were even at 10-10.
From the centre - Joe Nash boots the ball to the 22m, Clark and Dyllan Philips work together with Phillips getting across the line. A hard tackle from the side by Orange causes the ball to drop before being placed.
Ryan attacked the line following a scrum and again a neat pass to Rathbone had him scoing under the posts. James Dean took Parkes’ lead 17-10.
With 5 minutes to go Orange sent a long kick down to the in-goal.
The Orange wing had the ball insight but Symington was there first and grounded the ball to save a certain try. Boars took the match.
