“Someone should remind Mr Grant that these MPs were elected to the NSW Parliament to represent their communities – they are not there to support him,” Mr Haynes said.
“The sackings make it obvious that Troy Grant demands party loyalty at the expense of loyalty to the community he represents preferring to support what Mike Baird said in his maiden speech to parliament.”
Mr Haynes said Mike Baird was right when he said, “I discovered that the two party system is breaking - and it is breaking down under a belief by electors that representatives of a major party will always give their loyalty to their party and not their community”. According to Mr Haynes, what Mr Baird also said at the time and has now forgotten to do was, “in the coming months I will seek to introduce into the party room of the Liberal party another discretion, that is, the discretion that also allows members a free vote in matters that relate to the direct interests of their own community”.
“You would have thought that [Mr Grant] would follow Mike Baird’s thoughts on this issue, and allow Nationals members a free vote in matters that relate to the direct interests of their own community,” Mr Haynes said. “It has become quite clear that the National Party leadership has forgotten who they represent and who voted them in as they continuing to ignore their heartland.
“They’re no longer representing the interests of those who elected them to care for their communities. Let the NT elections be a wake up call to Baird, Grant and Toole of what they are certain to face if they continue not to listen to the people.
