Parkes Junior Rugby League
Round 14 against Canowindra
Under 10s: The Derrick Hoe Excavation PMJRL Under 10s played a spirited Canowindra outfit on Saturday, with the weather less than favourable. Parkes won the toss and decided to let Canowindra kick off. The forwards through Joe Monk and Josh Bowd flexed a bit of muscle to put Parkes on the front foot. Canowindra didn’t shy away from the battle, though. Toby Cox and Oliver Thomas consistently moved up in defence all game. When Parkes had the ball the boys looked the goods, running good angles to penetrate the defence and completing great offloads when they had the opportunities. Sam Duffy on the flank and Marley Moran in the centres confused Canowindra's defence whenever they ran the ball. Marley copped a vicious head high but to his credit got back up and ran straight back into them again.
Jack Milne took notice of how Canowindra's speedster was scoring all his tries and gave it back to them. Jack blitzed them and scored two great tries. Zac Payseno also scored a great individual try. He scooted from dummy half and through three defenders to slam the ball over the line.
Final Score Parkes 30 Canowindra 18. Tries to Jack Milne (2), Josh Bowd, Oliver Thomas, Zac Payseno. Conversions to Marley Moran, Bob McKewen, Toby Cox, Aiden Byrnes and Jack Milne.
Under 12s: K and H Earthmoving under 12s ran onto the field on Saturday with snow in the wind. Under the freezing conditions, the boys were keen to get moving. Bayden Moran opened the scoreboard with a quick try. The conversion was unsuccessful. After a few fumbled balls the boys settled to display teamwork with solid runs by Zac Slavin and Dustin James. After a kick on the fifth tackle gave Canowindra possession, Parkes were determined to keep them down their end with strong tackles from Bayden Moran, Toby Miller and Jye Facchi. A penalty gave Canowindra six again so defence continued with Malakai Folau, Jai Thompson and Wilson Duffy. A kick caught by Toby Miller, followed by a run along the sidelines had parents holding their breath. Toby finally scored in the corner, conversion by Bayden Moran was successful. Kade Lydford continued to shine as fullback consistently retrieving the ball. Jay Arrow was next to score and successfully convert his own try. A lost Canowindra ball saw Jye Facchi set up the next try making good ground with Toby Miller scoring. Jye was then successful in converting. Parkes had a solid lead 22 – 0 at half-time.
The second half saw a stronger Canowindra defence take the field. Teamwork saw Toby Miller score his third try. The conversion was unsuccessful. Our skinny players Kade Crisp and Brodie Clarke put themselves on the line to stop Canowindra. Mac Rauchle and Jackson Parke-Lee had some solid runs with Dustin James and Mason Leedham bulldozered their way through the defence with a kick and chase was placed on the ground by Wilson Duffy to score. The final score saw Parkes win 30 – 0.
Under 14s: Parkes Sportspower under 14s took the field against Canowindra. Canowindra kicked off finding touch, giving them the scrum feed and possession. Defence had to be solid so as not to allow them to make ground which was successful as Bailey Bowd, Cody Crisp and Nic Facchi continued to stop Canowindra. Parkes gained possession in their half. Dodo Sodrodo was through to score with a successful conversion by Nic Facchi. Kick off saw a Parkes error as it found touch again giving Canowindra possession. Parkes gained possession with solid runs from our forwards Finnley Neilsen and Eden Lydford. Brendan Trim took the ball over the line to score, conversion from Nic Facchi was successful. Col Rauchle retrieved the kick and suffered a head high tackle for his efforts. This gave Parkes six again and the opportunity for Cody Crisp to score with another successful conversion from Nic Facchi.
A Parkes error meant defence had to switch on to ensure Canowindra didn’t score. Kane Slavin, Benny Herring, Ben Cooper and Zac Davies worked hard to keep Canowindra from gaining ground. Canowindra kick was picked up by Dodo with good ball passing to Josh Tanswell who scored, conversion was unsuccessful. A tricky play from the 14s saw Benny Herring go one way with the defence following opening a gap for Marty Hennock to score the other way. Conversion by Nic Facchi was successful giving Parkes a 34 nil lead at half-time.
Parkes continued to lose possession from the kick off with ball handling errors resulting in defence working hard. Zayne Eshman intercepted a Canowindra ball to give Parkes the ball. Matt Dillon was able to continue the set and put the ball down, conversion was unsuccessful. Parkes lost possession again from the kick off and had to apply pressure to Canowindra eventually forcing and error and Josh Tanswell taking possession for Parkes.
Solid runs from Michael Riley, Finnley Neilsen and Brendan Trim helped put Eden Lydford in position to force himself over the line and score. Next opportunity saw Zayne Eshman take the ball across the line to score. The final opportunity for Parkes saw Nic Fachhi score and Finnley Neilsen convert. Parkes had won 56 – 0.
Under 16s: The under 16s, sponsored by Brian Collins Smash Repairs, travelled away this week to play Canowindra. Captain, Ben Davis led the boys’ out onto the field to begin the game. Benjamin Glasheen kicked off and it was a deep kick that ended up with Canowindra being tackled in-goal, on the first tackle. This forced a drop-out kick by Canowindra and Parkes had their first possession of the game. Parkes made a break and got close to the line but a forward pass was called. After a Parkes scrum feed the ball got to Ben Davis who charged over for the first points of the game. The 4-0 lead was increased when Ben Davis scored his second try and Cooper Neilsen converted for 10-0. The Parkes forwards were making ground during the game with strong runs from Rhys Ward, Will Moore, Riley Ross, Jonah Ruzgas and Escher Luck. Lachie Davis and Michael Murphy made some quick ground and a pass got to Ben Davis who went over for his third try. Cooper converted for 16-0.
A storming run from Rhys Ward minutes later resulted in him going over for a try. Cooper converted for 22-0. Canowindra got the ball near their line and looked like going in for a try only to kick a field goal. Just on half time, Ben Davis received the ball from a Canowindra goal line drop-out and went over for his fourth try. The half time score was in favour of Parkes 26-1.
In the second half, the Parkes boys were passing the footy around nicely and a ball made it out to Jackson Goonery who off loaded to Ryan Hennock who went over for a try near the corner post. Parkes led 30-1. Escher Luck added four more when he got over the line to take the score to 44-1. A break and a strong run by Benjamin Glasheen saw him open up some gaps and then unselfishly pass the ball to Riley Ross who went in for a try. Michael Murphy converted Riley’s try and Parkes had a 50-1 win at full-time.
