The 2013 Graincorp Cup southern premiers have been shifted to the northern conference in 2016, but have remained a powerhouse outfit despite the change in scenery.
A 16-3 win over Geurie in the northern minor semi-final is indicative of that and Oldham is hoping the Magpies can again lift in Saturday’s preliminary final against the Redbacks at Wellington.
“I think we’ll need to step it up again,” the No.9 said ahead of Saturday’s clash.
“I think the boys have been pretty disappointed with the way we’ve been playing throughout the back end of the year and we got it together against Geurie.
“But we’ll need to do that again against Wellington.”
Wellington got the chocolates in the only game the two sides played during the regular season of the Graincorp Cup, a 24-18 victory to the Redbacks.
Oldham said an undermanned Molong battled against Wellington on that day, but that shouldn’t be the case this weekend with the hosts coming off a dramatic major semi-final loss to minor premiers Trangie.
Trangie and Wellington were locked at 11-all at the end of regular and extra time, ensuring the Tigers progressed through to the decider courtesy of their place on top of the ladder.
Oldham said the likes of Michael Thompson, Kyle Travis and Josh Peffer have led the Magpies in recent weeks, he’s expecting that to continue in Wellington.
Molong travels to Wellington for their Graincorp Cup’s northern preliminary final at 3.15pm on Saturday.
