Staff, local community groups and businesses inspected the facilities on Friday and the unit is expected to be up and running this week.
Four nurses will operate the renal unit six days a week, with Cowra patients receiving treatment on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Patients from Young and Boorowa are able to travel for treatment on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
The new renal unit means that patients are no longer having to travel for hours at a time every second day to areas like Orange, Wagga Wagga and Queanbeyan.
Nurse Di Trevanion said staff had undertaken six weeks of intensive training.
“They only took one person at a time for training, it’s intense,” Di said.

“The first three weeks you’re just bombarded and don’t know which way is up ... but it falls into place by about the third week.”
Four patients from Cowra who had previously been travelling to Orange for treatment will be the first to use the new facilities and equipment.
