Members will contest the re-scheduled Liz Matthews sponsored 27 Hole Championship at the Parkes Golf Club this Sunday, July 31.
With the defending titleholders battling not only several new combinations, there is distinct possibility that the weather will play an integral part in deciding the outcome.
If the course is extremely wet, the tried and tested Robert Hey and Lynne Guise could surprise and make it two championships in three years.
Guise is the Mixed Foursomes queen having won the title on four occasions in the past five years with three different partners.
However if fine conditions prevail the new combinations of reigning Men’s Club Champion Justin Sutton and Colleen Flynn and Joey Van Opynen and Cherrie Phillips will definitely be in the mix.
Despite the chances the title will be won by the combination who can get their act together and combine, it would not surprise to see the Hey and Guise pairing snare their second title over the fast finishing Sutton and Flynn combination.
The surprise packets of the event and probably the short-priced favourites for the Liz Matthews handicap section are the husband and wife pairing of David and Leone Stevenson.
In the Consolation Division with reigning titleholders Michael Smith and Liz Matthews going their separate ways, Matthews has teamed up with Club Captain Paul Thomas in a surprising combination.
The junior combination of Lachlan Buesnell and Kasey Faye-Rice will start as favourites but will have to keep a close eye on the Vince Kelly and Sue Holman pairing.
However despite the accolades the favoured pairings will have, it wouldn’t surprise to see Richard Hutchison and the queen of the greens Barbara Donnelly dominate in a wide open Division that has many chances.
Players are reminded that lunch can be taken after the initial 18 holes and the club’s snack bar will be in operation. Players are advised to check the club’s noticeboard for Sunday’s draw.
