Parkes based Wright has been dominant on the picnic circuit over several years, and travels far and wide to give his owners the opportunity to earn prize money with his horses contesting races suited to their ability.
A trainer of thoroughbreds for the past 15 years, Wright was initially involved in harness racing being a trainer-driver from the age 17 at his hometown in Peak Hill.
Over the following 20 years he handled some smart pacers, among the best being Billy War Cloud and Regal Monarch.
An interstate challenge series involved heats in Victoria and NSW and Wright drove Regal Monarch to victory in the final at Fairfield Paceway.
Apart from his many wins with gallopers on the picnic circuit, Wright has achieved plenty of success at TAB meetings.
Jellybean Jack was a talented two-year-old prepared by Wright to win juvenile races before finishing a close third to subsequent Melbourne winner Jackpot Queen in the famous Wellington Boot.
This winter Wright has done an excellent job with Emerald Fortune, the lightly-raced gelding winning the Tomingley Picnic Cup when carrying the top weight against much more seasoned rivals.
He then won successive TAB races at Narromine and Dubbo.
Very much involved in the Wright Stable success is the trainer’s son George Wright Jnr, a regular trackwork rider.
Runner-up to Wright in the NSW Picnic Trainers Premiership was Mark Cummins from Young, with Moree trainer Peter Sinclair in third place.
Apart from horse racing, Wright has had a long time involvement with rugby league, being a former player with Peak Hill, and now an avid supporter and committee member of the Parkes Rugby League Club in Group Eleven.
In other racing news, racing will be conducted at Coonabarabran (TAB) on Saturday and the Forbes Cup (TAB) on Monday.
This is followed by Louth on Saturday, August 6 and Bathurst on Monday, August 8.
