THS President, Mrs Laurie Fishpool, welcomed Mr Fischer to Tottenham and introduced him to the guests.
Being a keen railway buff, he spoke on railway history and gave an interesting talk on the many different gauges used across the states over the years.
He said the freight line between Tottenham and Bogan Gate should be used, or expect to lose it.
Mr Fischer also encouraged the community of Tottenham to try new ideas to achieve greater things and a brighter future for the town. He quoted examples of other small towns using clever ideas to help their towns survive and thrive.
Mr Fischer spoke about his latest book, “Maestro John Monash”, reminding guests of the centenary of the Battles of Fromelle and Pozieres.
He presented a signed copy to Tottenham Central School girl captain, Amy-lee Wilson, to be placed in the school library.
Mr Fischer also presented another of his books “Trains Unlimited” to Mrs Jane Medcalf, “Lachlan Shire’s first lady”.
The Mayor of Lachlan Shire, Mr John Medcalf, thanked Mr Fischer for his lively and most entertaining address and for coming to Tottenham for the occasion.
Over 50 guests attended the dinner, enjoying a two course meal from Nikki’s Kitchen.
